Last Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced their Employment Situation Summary for May. Although job growth was lower than expected, they did point out 3 areas that were up: Healthcare, Mining and Professional and Business Services.
The U.S. Healthcare sector has seen consistent job growth during both good and bad employment times. Over the past 120 days, recruiting…

It was well attended, and Richard Cho of Facebook is the man. Attendees had an edge about them, giving you a sense that there is real momentum in the recruiting…

Earlier this week, Dr. John Sullivan wrote an article "RIP - Announcing the Death of the Corporate Careers Website". In this piece, he wrote a piece on why Corporate Career sites are ineffective and may not be worth putting the time and money into with the wealth of social media and…

When it comes to introducing new products in the online recruiting space, innovation is an over used word. I’ve seen too many press releases that claim to be the “be all, end all” tool that you need. It’s now just a word with hollow meaning.
So I won’t be using it to describe JobSpeek, my new mobile…

Illinois has decided to make Workers Compensation benefits more difficult for those who may be inebriated on the job. The state has passed the "Presumptive Denial Law." Which means if you test positive for drugs or alcohol you are denied your workers compensation benefits. The State's Governor is expected to sign this legislation, which would take effect September 1st.
According to the new statute, it must be demonstrated that intoxication is indeed the "proximate cause" of the…

It is more obvious than ever that recruiting teams have to diversify their recruitment marketing efforts. Every person I talk to has an egg timer (no pun intended) on their job board contract. Will they swear off job boards completely? Maybe, maybe not. Universally, they will spend less. One big board instead of two. A handful of niche boards not dozens. The smart money is moving to LinkedIn and Facebook.…

Last week I had a very interesting debate with Hung Lee of Wise_Man_Say regarding the relevance of face-to-face interviews as a credible assessment tool in the selection processes of today.
One of Hung’s arguments is that, for…

This is an important and exciting post about RecruitingBlogs.com
I am an entrepreneur and a recruiter at heart. I started out in the recruiting business back in 1993 and successfully ran a large recruiting firm that made a deal a day for many years. I miss it. I miss it a lot.
I have reached a point where it's time for me to do something new and what I really want to do is to make placements. I am constantly having discussions with other recruiters and every time I do, I…
