The Client Side - Government Intervention, Penske, and How Things Should Be

This past week it was announced that Roger Penske's company was buying Saturn. This is what should have happened, but not orchestrated by the government and it should have happened months ago. The recruiting industry is impacted more by overall business conditions than most industries, so this is important stuff for all of us involved.

Back in the fall, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and his right hand man Tim Geithner (now Treasury Secretary under Obama) basically told George Bush… Continue

What New Leaders Can Learn from Late-Night TV

Conan O’Brien’s move to The Tonight Show is one of the hottest topics of conversation these days. Of course, anytime some mainstay changes, people are bound to feel uncomfortable or even downright hostile. But an author at HRM Today recently posted an article on what new managers and team leaders can potentially learn from his high-profile switch. Though Conan is a bona fide… Continue

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

Ok, I will behave myself this month and try not to cause a ruckus. I did learn a new word last blog thanks to Gerry Crispin..putanesca. I think it is some kind of sauce, but also has something to do with women of ill repute. Hmmmm?

So here I go with this month’s blog. Not only am I a recruiter but I am a mom, and I was remembering long ago, when my daughter was little. She had the ears of a well trained hunting dog when it came to the sounds of the neighborhood ice cream truck. She… Continue

Save your Job! Show your Boss your worth, demo this right here…

It’s summer time already in the South, 90 degrees outside and humid as Vietnam 1969. The layoffs are still hot too. Not a whole lot of jobs reqs either.

Your Boss is pacing the office like a half crazed Nazi commander waiting for orders to drop kick more recruiters out. Everyone is doing their best to look busy, marching down the halls as they peck away on their blackberry and even giving Social Media Recruiting presentations.

Even a… Continue

I’m tired of playing dumb!

There has been a lot of talk and stories written lately about job seekers dumbing down their resumes. For the un-initiated, this is when you leave information (accomplishments and successes) off of your resume because you want to give the impression that you are not as experienced as you actually are. In my mind there are at least three distinct types of job seekers. You are either employed (congratulations), unemployed (help is on the way), or underemployed (probably looking). I think it is… Continue

So... I want to share some qualifying… Continue

I've tried Twitter for a good while now but nothing compares to the power of Ning (especially when your business is on autopilot!). How much are you guys making with your Ning Blogs?
