“Great opportunity for an experienced widget maker”

If an ad goes over the top it sounds…

Underemployment

The unemployment rate has been trending down since 2010.  That’s a good thing even considering the fact that we were in really bad shape then and the numbers are regularly massaged.

If you include the underemployed (those working at lesser jobs than they really need but still not qualifying for unemployment) the numbers aren’t nearly as good.  You really have to include the underemployed to get a feel for how good or bad the situation is.  The underemployed don’t make enough money and…

How Relocation Packages Impact Recruitment

Recruiters work hard to find people outside of their immediate location to work for their companies. Whether they’re headhunting—actively recruiting people from other companies, such as their competitors—or doing a broader outreach to bring in applicants, distance can be a major deterrent to potential employees.

While it may be difficult to recruit employees from across the country to…

If You Are Looking for Potential Candidates In Other Countries...

How can we search for pages local to a particular country?

No Shame

There is no shame in not being the right fit.  Many candidates feel rejected when they are passed on by a hiring manager.  Recruiters, especially early in their careers, can sometimes feel rejected when their candidate is not a fit.

I’m not the right fit for the Golden State Warriors at small forward and I’m not the right fit for manicurist at the local salon.  No shame in that.  Recruiting is about finding.  Finding the right candidate.  Finding the right position.  Feeling rejected…

Hi my name is...

When I was in high school I applied for a job at Pizza Hut. A few of my friends worked there and I hated my current job so I figured I’d try it out. The day of the interview I was a little nervous - standard nerves about an interview - nothing crazy. The manager came to the front of the restaurant to meet me and we sat in a booth to begin the Q&A. The first thing he asked was, “So that’s your real name? We all were taking bets it was a stage name.” To say that I was shocked would be an…

Why Recruit?

If you want to know why you recruit, ask yourself why you are in business.  Companies are in business for a reason or for a number of reasons.

  • To make an impact on the world.
  • To satisfy a need.
  • To make a given set of people happier.
  • To make things easier for a given set of people.
  • To make money, employ people, produce something useful……..

If you’ve got a reason to be in business then there’s a reason you need to recruit.  In…

The Top 4 Interview Questions to Avoid

Hiring staff isn’t just a one-way persuasion – it’s a contract between two parties. So when interviewing candidates, it’s as much as advertising your organisation, as it is for the candidate to advertise themselves. Candidates love modern, quirky companies, that think outside the box, so…
