Hello Slouch, In response to your email requesting individual blogging of ideally what we would like to see on Recruitingblogs.com: I am looking for help as a 2+ year Independently Contracted Recruiter to break out of the shell and make it on my own or enjoy splits or gain overall knowledge of how to make it in the recruiting world. What should a contract look like? How do I get my foot in the door with my own recruiting contracts? I was brought into the Recruiting world by a firm that…

As a third-party recruiter, I have received many articles and webinar invitations revolving around recruiting in a downturn economy. I would be interested in having an open dialogue with recruiters and corporate talent acquisition teams to see how they are handling our current economy.
Note: I do not open this as a camplaining session as we can all do that, but rather hopefully gain insight for the overall benefit of the group.

At the heart of the matter…where the real struggle lies.
Had an interesting conversation with a client this week that has stayed with me now for a few days. We began working with her team a couple of months ago around issues of diversity, inclusion, and culture change and have done some really good foundational work. The workshops and dialogues that I have facilitated have been well received and generated a buzz of ideas, questions and energy. I have even received several…

Perhaps this will come as a surprise to some in this community but recruiting leads to winners and losers - someone receives a new opportunity and others are left to (a) fill in the holes left by someone's departure and (b) others are "hurt" because they weren't selected for the new opportunity - as a candidate and in all likelihood as internal candidates on both sides of the departure. This scenario cascades because like the…

“It certainly rings true that new media are inextricably woven into young people’s lives,” said Vicki Rideout, vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation and director of its program for the study of media and health.
“Ethnographic studies like this are good at describing how young people fit social media into their lives. What they can’t do is document effects. This highlights the need for larger, nationally representative studies."
“But their participation is… Continue

I am a full life cycle recruiter so I like to stay on top of all the new sourcing techniques out there. Today I attended Geoff Peterson’s wonderfully informative, free webinar
30 Recruiting Strategies in a Downturn Economy. (Not sure "attended" is the correct word. What DO you call it when you sit at your desk and listen in?)
Geoff covered all kinds of techniques for using new media – Twitter, Facebook, podcasting, etc. to attract and source passive candidates. For more…

10th Grade
As I sat there in English class,
I stared at the girl next to me.
She was my so called 'best friend'.
I stared at her long, silky hair,
and wished she was mine.
But she didn't notice me like that
and I knew it. After class,
she walked up to me and asked me for
the notes she had missed the day before.
I handed them to her.
She said 'thanks' and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
I want to tell her, I want her to…

The number of applicant tracking system (ATS) vendors has steadily grown over the past several years and continues to grow today. In what I believe to be one of the fiercest competitive arenas in software, vendors are evolving their solutions and offerings in an attempt to standout from the rest of the pack. Company reputation, price and feature sets are the main components vendors struggle to balance in an attempt to become profitable. However, there are challenging forms of competition…

our own job is in jeopardy. IT sector has been hit dramatically during these crises. Technology is one of the areas that gets hit hard during economic turmoils. After all, IT is not a necessity like health care and…
