HR Strikes Again

Dear Claudia,

I’ve made placements with a small company for years that didn’t have an HR function. Mid-last year they were bought by a much larger company with a recruiting department, and the rules for third party recruiters are changing. They’ve asked me to sign a new agreement that basically says before any candidate can be presented to a manager the resume must be submitted to a central HR administrator who will verify they aren’t already in the company ATS. We have no direct…

Seinfeld new season!!!!

On a Saturday mornin' ,when i was returning home from a party ( i was kinda wasted ),i 've got the weirdest idea! That is : i tought that we can make Seinfeld return for a new season!!!! And that that was possible due to our common effort--paying for whatever they need to do the season. But is hard if not impossible to find a way that everybody can contribute with some amount of money ( e.g. 2 $ or 40 cents or 5 cents ), the amount is not that important because we are so many fans around the… Continue

Audio / Video Presentation Software Suggestions?

I need to make a presentation to a gatekeeper. In turn, the gatekeeper will be speaking with the decision-maker regarding the venture’s merits. I would like to create a PowerPoint presentation that allows for an audio voiceover. This would make me more confident that the proper message gets to the decision-maker.

Does anyone know of a software solution that can help me accomplish this?
Thanks!

Feedback from the Real World

Even when you have been around as long as ExecuNet has (21 years and counting) and over that time have gotten more than your fair share of kudos for whatever, it still makes you feel good when they keep coming. If nothing else, it reminds the organization that consistency is critical.

I am happy to say that we were reminded of this yet once again when we got notice that we were once again a WEDDLE's User's Choice winner. What WEDDLE's does is to post a ballot of 114 sites (not… Continue

Electronic ATS and it's (potential) downfalls with face-to-face recruiting

So I've been finding lately that our electronic ATS is both a blessing and a curse.

Coming from the non-profit world where we only dealt with paper resumes and drop file folders, an on-line, web-based ATS was a god send. However, I've been noticing that when discussing the application process with potential applicants face-to-face, I am not seeing as many people take the necessary steps to submit their applications.

At any given event, I'll speak to, let's say 100 people; of… Continue

Hi Folks;

i keep forgetting to post this topic...

Seeking a job paying 250K, give or take 200K

In order to be unaware of the current global economic crisis a person would quite literally have to be living in a cave actively avoiding contact with the outside world. As such I'll forego beating the proverbially dead horse since we all know how bad things are.

Because of the down market, people are getting a bit more desperate for employment. This is also not a shocker. This desperation can lead people down a few different routes, a few of which are interesting, but only one of… Continue

Hey guys!! Thanks for checking out my page. My name is Tom and I currently work for an IT staffing firm as a technical recruiter. Back in December I started a blog on some of the day to day challenges or experiences I encountered through my job. Networking: Old AND New

I am a big fan and true believer in social media and Web 2.0 technology, and I feel they are excellent tools for us to leverage.

These tools have brought a new level to the way we do business and communicate with one another. They make it easier for us to e-mail our contacts or simply “shout out” a comment to someone via Facebook or Twitter. And they have created a fantastic way for me to find new candidates; candidates I would never have had access to before and can now communicate with… Continue

Cash is king...

We've all heard the phrase "cash is king" and probably hear that today more than ever. Why? Keep in mind that this is overly general but I'm just trying to illustrate a point. In today's economy we hear a lot about companies that borrowed extensively to fuel their growth and now the underlying assets that secured those loans are worth a lot less. In extreme cases that puts those companies upside down - meaning they owe more than the collateralized assets are worth. One way for these companies… Continue

Taboo

To freshen my recollection of Ginzburg and his magazine, I looked at the New York Times obit, published the day after his death. He was lionized as "a taboo-busting editor and publisher, who helped set off the sexual revolution in the 1960s with Eros magazine and was imprisoned for sending it through the United States mail in a case decided by the Supreme Court..." The Times described Eros as "a stunningly designed 'magbook' devoted to eroticism...… Continue

Pardon me while I answer my cell phone and commit other interview blunders...

I love being connected; perhaps a bit too much because getting away becomes more and more difficult the more technology I add to my life. However, there are times when it is completely inappropriate to take advantage of that which instant connectivity has to offer. Specifically I’m referring to answering your cell in the middle of an interview.

I have been working on a position in the treasury group of my company and called a very promising looking candidate today. When I asked if it… Continue
