Any advice.....Anyone?

I am looking for anyone in the staffing industry that would be willing to give me some advice on staffing software out there today. The company I work for is in need of changing our front end software and there are so many to choose from, which of all seem to have similar functions and look. I am having a hard time weeding out which one would best fit our needs. The problems I am facing are all the software out there seems to be sooo advanced technilogically, that I am not quite sure if some of… Continue

5 Networking Sites to See!

sitesee Most of you know the major social networking sites (Facebook®, LinkedIN®.) Well, there are a few out there you may not know about that are starting to emerge as viable networking places (membership, hits, growth, etc.) even though they may not be what you would think as a social network. If you aren't on or visiting these, you should check them out and get on at least a couple. By the way, I am not… Continue

SEO for recruitment and "The Long Tail"

Here is a great interesting take on the “Long Tail” written by Dustin Woodard, guesting on Hitwise.

SEO for recruitment keywords is massively dependant on company size and how niche that company is.

For example, if your recruitment company hires advertising staff in London, I’d suggest that’s not very niche, so realistic goal setting in keyword analysis would be to look at what… Continue

Ma Bell Called, Your Hired (or Not)

In a recent Wall Street Journal article titled "The New Trouble on the Line", the writer provided keen details on how important phone interviews are to the process. I know many of our clients are conducting highly detailed and multiple phone interviews. This article brought back a flurry of memories and reminds us how important it is to prep people for the phone interview(s).

The extensive nature of the interview is not limited to full time employees. We also find more extensive… Continue

Professionals vs Entry Level

We have a large project using a Hospital application called Epic. We are going to bring in some very bright recent grads and will cross train them in the product (which is in very high demand). There is a real shortage of people with the specific EPIC experience. Our target audience is the students who can no longer get Wall Street positions. This should prove to be very fruitful (we hope).

The interview's the thing...

A woman has been sitting in our lobby for 71 minutes. Patiently waiting. Sitting and chatting. More precisely, a candidate for our administrative/bookkeeper position has been sitting patiently for more than an hour. Part of this is her own doing - she was 20 minutes early; part of it is happenstance - our branch manager had another meeting this morning that is running muuuuuch longer than expected. She's not concerned; she's willing to wait.

This is a huge point in her favour. She… Continue

Your cost per interview; effective job searching?

If you are sending out 50 resumes, to get 10 interviews that lead to one job offer, is that an effective ratio? I don’t profess to be a statistician, matter of fact, I didn’t do well in the class in college. What I do know is you should be spending your time on tasks that will lead to a job. How do you measure the effectiveness of your job search? A lot of people spend $200 -$500 for resume writing services. If that resume generates 10 interviews for you, you’ve paid $20-$50 per interview. If… Continue

Top Three Medical Jobs

Can Someone Move That Boulder Please?

Obstacles, we all face them. Whether it’s the proverbial boulder in the road or the car that won’t start on your way to a meeting or, the 10th interview that will never lead to a job offer. We all have to face temporary road blocks in order to make it to the other side. As frustrating as these setbacks seem, it is part and parcel of what we all experience as we grow and move towards our ultimate goals.

In truth, it’s our reaction to these obstacles that either keep us stuck in the… Continue

Business vs Social Networking & Legislation

Things that make me go hmmmmmmmmm....

I recently attended a free webinar, where the speaker made distinct lines between social and business networks. However, as recruitment professionals, those lines are often crossed. Isn't a true network a mix of both?

I do recognize that some Social Networks like Facebook are mostly created for the personal, and are used as social sharing pages. However, the recruiter and HR professional have checked it for networks into companies, business… Continue

Search for People on Google Profiles

What is ‘Google Profiles’?

According to Google it's the way that people can control how they appear in Google by creating personal profiles. When people search for a name on Google, it will show a list of the Google Profiles that users have setup under that name. This is a great feature for people who want to control what will appear when others search for their names on Google.

Recently, Google introduced a new… Continue

Don't be seduced with the dream of easy success

Weird times we live in huh?

A few months ago, I was sitting in my office, thinking of ways to keep my department relevant. So much time and brain power was used in thinking of ways to keep the Recruiting team out of the firing line (literally) in times when hiring wasn't happening as quickly as it had in the past. I knew it was tough times, but fought hard to keep my team in tact. Not that it was specifically targeted by my company, however I know investors and market analysts asked… Continue

Management vs line level professionals

I am recruiting for a Fire Safety Director for Mount Sinai. I have also been asked to find coders(the folks that figure out the insurance ) It is much easier to find senior people. The operator or area just gves out the names. To find coders (or programmers in my previous life) takes an inrodinate amout of digging. Senior people are also much more receptive and frequently give out refferals. If a line level professional is not looking many times(but not all) you get attitude.

Just my 2… Continue
