Recruiting is like sales and marketing rolled into one. If a company has a great brand, a great job, and a great hiring manager, not too much marketing or recruiting is required. But if your company lacks one or more of these factors — or if you're targeting hard-to-fill positions — then stronger recruiters are required.
Use the following "10 Commandments of Recruiting" as a guide to assess yourself, your team, or any new recruiter about to be hired when these strong recruiting…

I hesitated posting this because I'm complaining and I don't like to complain (at least not publically). But I know I'm not the only recruiter out there with this problem so I thought it might not be a bad idea to start a dialogue.
Ok, so what's this pet peeve of mine? Resumes. More specifically, poorly constructed resumes. Even more specifically, poorly constructed resumes being used by third party agencies primarily marketing sponsored candidates. Let me quickly state that this…

Down Under, Recruitment Agencies run rampant. I have seen some amazing numbers today claiming that Agency use for new hires is about 2% in the US with some companies.
I am interested to hear what effect that has had on the way that Agencies do business and how business views them....

Take it from a HR Professional, HR and Staffing are one. How? Why? Because in order for your HR department to add its maximum value, you must realize that Staffing and HR are joined at the hip. HR Managers, and Directors need to be connected to their recruiters, and Hiring Managers need to partner as one in order to reduce time to fill, and increase the performance metrics that are needed to find great talent. It is so key to know each other, to keep that department chugging along at its…

Dear Claudia,
I started recruiting about 3 years ago, and work for a small executive search firm. I really loved my job until about 6 months ago when it changed from just candidate development to include business development. The environment is hyper-competitive, and I struggle to bring in retainers (actually, I'm pretty bad at it) so I'm always at the bottom of the producer list. The fun has gone out of my job for me, although I'm unsure if the problem is that I need to get out… Continue

I have been reading a lot lately about Generation Y and how evidently it will be the fall of western civilization. I did quite a bit of research about them for my last employer because they hired predominantly entry level, college grads in its management training program. There are some fears about who is coming out of this group and I politely disagree. I am here to make the case for this group and tell you why everything will be ok. Now, realize that I am technically part of this generation,…

Maybe everyone in the world knows this already, but it was just passed on to me this week-end. Barack and Hillary, yes, the democratic candidates for president, are on LinkedIn. I also noted that if you are a member of TopLinked, one of the groups within LinkedIn, you can send an invite to Barack to be networked with him. I don't know if anyone replies to the invites, I am sure it is not Barack sitting at his computer replying to the invites, but would be nice to be Linked with…
