Top 25 Jobs – The StaffingU Market Demand Report

Recently I was asked how I recommend you use the information in our Market Demand Reports and what are the potential results. Here are two examples of what some of our clients are doing with this information and the latest list of the top 25 jobs.

1. As part of a strategy we discussed in a coaching conversation, a healthcare staffing company in Colorado printed the Top 25 Jobs report from our site and took it to their client meeting. Upon learning and seeing the increased demand…

Give your Job Ad some Personality!

So you’ve already set up your job distribution strategy and sending your job ads to the recruiting channels (job boards, social networks, email) that work the best for you according to the recruitment metrics you collect.  You’re doing everything right except you are still not getting the number of qualified candidates that you want out of your recruiting strategy.

What are you doing wrong?

Well, one of the first things you may want to check out is your view…

Making a Big Hit with Succession Planning

Good bench strength makes for good succession planning, and with baseball opening day upon us, we want you to hit it out of the park with your bench every time.  Many companies over-simplify succession planning, relying on just an intuitive sense of who could move up when top leaders move on or retire.  Good succession planning is a process within a system of excellent Talent Management, and when done well, it ensures long-term company growth.  A solid succession planning…

Business is my Sports, and I am a Talent Scout

In a previous post (Want to become a successful CFO?...) I discussed how I love to follow business. For the longest time I've said that business is my sports.

That is not to say I don't have a favorite sports team (Go Habs) or mourn for the nostalgia of what could have been (R.I.P. Expos), it's just that if sports was not a part of my life, it wouldn't be a great loss.

I do follow business like some people follow sports. I… Continue

Listen to YOUR employees, PLEASE

Irish poet William Butler Yeats once said, “Think like a wise man but communicate in the language of the people.”  I think this quote embodies a really important thing that we sometimes forget not only in the office, but in all aspects of life: how to properly communicate. We talk to strangers, friends, colleagues all the time, but there are many techniques we could employ to enrich our communicative experience for us and those we are communicating with. That’s what I’ll be talking about…

Top talent isn't enough

We write a lot about top talent. That’s because everyone wants top talent. Who wants to hire average talent, right?  It’s not that top talent is elusive – it’s always out there. You just have to know where to find it – and with our extensive network of IT professionals – Agile does. The need to hire and retain top talent is nothing new; it’s not a result of the Great Recession.  But changes within IT organizations – due in part to the weakened economy…

3 Top Ideas for Success

I’m a big fan of lists.  There, I said it.  I make lists for everything from groceries to goals and everything in between.  I’m an even bigger fan of short, concise lists.  Can you achieve the exact same thing in three points as you could with ten points?  Sure, why not?

I recently had the opportunity to hear… Continue

The unexplained behaviour....

Being in search and recruitment for a while now I have met and spoken to different strange people here and there but there are some interactions that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

About a year ago we had a candidate that we were representing to one of our clients at the time. Let's call the candidate John.

After several interviews John decided not to proceed with the role (or the client decided not to proceed, I can't exactly…

Succession Planning Doesn't Work: Just Ask Mubarak and Gadhafi

Aren't you amazed that senior executives of major companies still believe that succession planning works! I know I am. From the looks on the faces of Hosni Mubarak and Colonel Gadhafi during their last televised rants to their street side citizens, I can tell they are surprised their sons won't be succeeding them in the family business.

Why is it we (meaning just about every large company) aren't able to develop and plan our successors any better than the average tinpot Middle East…

Is The Ladders Giving Recruiting A Bad Name?

Let me say upfront so there are no misunderstandings, I haven’t used your service and most likely never will but thought I might as well chime in with my thoughts on your company, (which remains a topic of discussion) as so many others have. While I will agree that financially you seem to be on track, your business model and brand could probably use some tweaking.

First off, don’t air offhanded and offensive commercials as it affects the entire community of companies within…

The Power of Listening.....

Look at the title, and think about whether or not you pay attention to everything said to you in a given day; or do you hear only what you want and fill in the blank spaces with noise?  In a job such as recruiting or sales, the ears are almost more important than the eyes when it comes to making decisions. Any time a decision needs to be made; it is best made when all the information is at hand, and that no nuances or misinterpretation is at hand. I have a calendar at home, and one of the…

Motivating the Office Mob!

Motivation is the key to success! We all know this. A lack of motivation means a lack of results. If you ask an employee what will motivate them, they will usually leap out of their seats with neck stretched, eyes bulged, and teeth wide, and exclaim “MONEY” without even thinking. Sure, you’ll get the select few who can do their job with as little motivation as a Twinkie on a…

4 Low Maintenance Ways to Source candidates into your Talent Network

Building your own Talent Network can be very time-intensive from active web sourcing to searching resume databases.  The fact is many recruiting organizations don’t seem to have the time to build their Talent Network with all the other recruiting activities they need to do on a daily basis.
