As a field HR is no worse than say, law, or accounting, when it comes to not keeping up, but that's like saying big hair is no less cool than spandex.
Take compensation, for example. Most small businesses have adopted religiously the concepts of salary grids, annual salary…

Scene: Me sitting in an interview. In walks my interviewer who slightly resembles Steve Guttenberg from Police Academy – except my guy has a lazy eye. And the questions begin:

Lists. Do we really need them? Do we need somebody else to tell us who’s the best in the business? Why would we need something like that. Aren’t we intelligent people; can’t we…

I've been thinking a lot about this. What would happen if an A-list celebrity's manager was hired to run a corporate recruitment function? Take a few minutes to think about this, then keep scrolling down ...
I surmise employer branding would be high on the new manager's agenda. They would try and communicate the company's unique brand (think: Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, or George Clooney). They would want their…

After a long conversation with an established Account Executive this morning, my brain started thinking in overdrive. Why on earth would a successful sales executive want to leave a position with a top tier company when she has met quota quarter after quarter, year after…
