Worst States For Job Hunting

If you’re a Recruiter, a good piece was published the other day on CNN’s website regarding the worst states for job hunting that you should spend some time with.

One frequently overlooked, but critical factor in finding a new job is a state’s Unemployment Rate - - hardly a news flash to us in the Recruiting industry.

The Unemployment Rate is the percentage of job seekers in the work force who are still looking for work. The higher the percentage, the more difficult it is… Continue

With only seven days to go before the inaugural "RecruitingBlogs.com Dallas Networking Party," Roving Reporter Dennis Smith unleashes the 2nd in a series of absolutely worthless video segments.

3rd Party Splits - The Pro-Rata Guarantee

I have found that the simplest way to conduct split fee agreements is to operate on a Pro-Rata Guarantee. Essentially what this means is, the client holding agency disburses fees as warranty milestones pass, therefore alleviating any need to worry about chasing down other 3rd parties should the client require refund, or worse nagging 3rd parties to fulfill a replacement guarantee.

The way I have seen this work most effectively is in thirds. Supposing the average warranty time frame… Continue

Build Your Talent Pool, Strickland Style

Yes there are National skill shortages, but this national problem can only be answered locally. Every locale has its very own personality, needs, and in this case skill gaps. You weren't naive enough to think we could just start-up a national skill factory and answer the problem did you. The root of the problem is LOCAL and to answer this problem you can't expect national answers.

Hard questions...

What are you doing… Continue

Why Everything You Do Today, Matters Three Years From Now

My good buddy and colleague, Paul Myers (VP, Business Dev - WorldLink, Inc) convinced me that I needed to attend an HR Breakfast Briefing this morning sponsored by HR Search Firm (Levy Curry) and Challenger, Gray, and Christmas, Inc.

Breakfast - speaker - and networking ... all excellent. But it's the networking part that's had me scratching my head all day.

I was speaking with… Continue

My first blog!...How to Win

Hey fellow recruiters, this is my first blog! Thank you for checking it out. Ok, let's cut to the chase.

Let's talk about how to win in the recruiting profession. First and foremost people have to like you. If you're a jerk and only in this for yourself, you may win a few battles, but you are destined to lose the war.

So, let's say that you're the nice guy and you don't want to finish last...well being nice doesn't guarantee that your prospects will like you. They have to… Continue

Thoughts on picking a recruiting vertical; building a new desk

What is a good vertical market to recruit in? I get asked this question every week.

However, most often the question is more a question of what I “feel” would be a good market to start a new desk specialty in.

“Donato, what do you feel a good new desk specialty would be?”

I say. “I feel like a great market would be placing sales reps in software companies that do real time data mining of contact information.”

They respond, “but Donato,… Continue

Hump Day Humor 2/27

This is a good one from Work Joke! May we all consider this as it has both professional and eternal significance.

When a young salesman met his untimely end, he was informed that he had a choice about where he would spend his eternity: Heaven or Hell. He was allowed to visit both places, and then make his decision afterwards.

“I’ll see Heaven first,” said the salesman, and an angel led through the gates on a private… Continue

The legitmacy of technical certifications

Just everyone knows upfront- I am a novice at blogging, however I felt like I should just throw something out there that bothers me. Recruiting the recruiter @ Broadlook Technologies

We've come to the point where we need to hire a full time recruiter at Broadlook. I'm looking for first hand advice on the best sources, methodology, anything to get the word out about our position. The position is in-house in Pewaukee, WI about 30 minutes outside of Milwaukee.

Anyone refers to me a candidate I hire, I will put up a full year of Broadlook tools as a thank you.

Cheers!

Forgotten Fun

ERE Article Published 2/27/2008 by Maureen Sharib

I'd forgotten the fun of Internet search.

I had a job come in during January. The position was for a senior-level manager in the R&D software group of a major storage business. The customer told me in the specifications that the person we were looking for was "an uber-geek who has the capacity and the desire… Continue

Who hates automated email-gen recruiting software?!?!?

You.

Yes you, with the crappy automated-resume-searching-email-generating-software. You're a disgrace to this industry. You're the reason people sneer when they hear the word "recruiter" and we're sick of it. You're taking us down the tubes. If you keep this up, someday we'll have no more street cred than ambulance chasers, postal workers and school lunch ladies.... and we're not going to let that happen.

The gloves are coming off.

Whoever sold you… Continue
