How to get everyone to remember you

Here is how to get everyone to remember you privately and professionally.

I am here to give you my secret to success and how you will be remembered by everyone you meet. It is Thank You Notes. I know this sounds simple and maybe even silly, but here is what I do. Every time I got to a party, not a kegger, but a party, I write a thank you note for the invitation. I do it for friend's parents, my husband's boss, my manager, my social network...anyone. It does not have to be long, but… Continue

Recruiting Today's Top Grads

The Washington Post Magazine had an interesting article yesterday about college recruiting. The article certainly over-generalizes the current college recruiting environment (not all graduating students are getting this treatment, and not all employers are applying it). What it does show however what some top-end companies/government agencies are doing even in a softening economy, as well as what things are important to the current generation of graduates.

A worthy read if you are… Continue

The Fordyce Forum 2008 - "The Working Man"

The Fordyce Forum in Vegas was awesome (thanks Slouch and Rayanne!).

Here's a 2 minute video to give you an idea of who was there, and what RecruitingBlogs.com was doing behind the scenes.

First person to email Dennis Smith with the name of the band singing in the background, wins something of Slouch's choosing.

If you have ever thought about starting a job board....

you might think "what could go wrong?" -- well, I've been running latpro.com now for 11 years and here is what has gone wrong from time to time.

it's not actually a complete list, as some things are just not easily discussed in public -- but it's pretty close to complete I think.

How Search Engines are Impacting Job Boards

Yahoo! & Wikia - User Engaged Search

Yahoo! just announced, as part of their SearchMonkey initiative, the launch of Search Gallery on Wednesday and TechCrunch has a piece on the new and improved (“doesn’t suck”) release of Wikia Search. Am I becoming a programmer??

I think I learned something this morning. I'm not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. I understand how to use the 4 BASIC html tags (bold, italic, underline, bullets) - that's it. Being a guy that has recruited computer programmers for the past 8 years I've had numerous candidates ask me if I write code. The only code I know how to write is igpay atinlay. So here it goes, if I have a live link in the next sentence then I officially have learned one more programming trick. Ready? (Oh… Continue

Dave Williams

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you identified a passion outside of your current career? Dave Williams did and the result is, well, quite outstanding! If you haven't come across Dave previously let me tell you a bit about him. Dave was Senior Director for the Corporate Executive Board and led the Recruiting Roundtable for part of his eleven plus year tenure. At the time I was with a company that wasn't a member but did have the opportunity for a couple of really good conversations… Continue
