But I loved it – I brought my…

Social Media has become an integral part of the way we live and work. It is hard to imagine that it is only twenty years since the Internet was created. According to Nielsen research, social network traffic grew by 43% from June 2009 to June 2010. Social network activity now dwarfs online games, email and search as the number one activity. Every single day more people are also now turning to their social networks, as the preferred way to find jobs.
Managers need to realise that social…

We asked recruiters who are successfully doing contracting to share some of their best marketing tips. The main thing to keep in mind when trying to get contracting job orders is that, while you may be used to dealing with human resources when filling direct-hire job orders, contracting job orders are more often coordinated through the hiring manager.
Here are just a few things recruiters can do to sweep hiring managers off their…

Recruiting software – and recruiting strategy in general – needs to make the leap into the mobile age sooner than later.
The reason for this is simple: recruiters need to go where the candidates are. Thirty years ago, candidates routinely looked at the classified jobs section of the…

Ah, the age-old debate of the objective. Everyone wonders about it. A decade ago, no resume was complete with out a resume objective. Nowadays, resume objective statements are gradually becoming obsolete, and we (hiring professionals) do recommend omitting or replacing them with well-written professional profile summaries.
A Deeper Dive into the Debate
It’s one of those sticky questions that divides career experts everywhere. If you got 100 of them in a room, 50…

In a free-market economy like ours, staffing agencies perform the invaluable function of matching job seekers with employee seekers. Given the staffing software and other tools at their disposal, staffing agencies save both ends of the employment spectrum lots of time and money. That’s why in good and bad economic times, there never seems to be a shortage of people or…

I agree that you should be paid for the job you do, if you are a Doctor you should be compensated as such, if you are a mid-level manger or a fast food employee you should be compensated as such. In 2011, male or female can hold many of the same positions, but women only earn 80% as much as men. It could be for traditional reasons but studies show that the gap is closing and women are no longer accepting these statistics.
Moneywatch.com stated that a MBA study showed that men and…

Social Media is great for many things, for networking, branding your image, or just staying up to date on what’s going on in the world. The problem is that you can lose hours being on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, or…

OK, raise your hand if the last few years have been something less than wonderful for your recruiting business. Happy New Year!!! Keep that hand waving if you have the feeling that 2011 is going to be a breakout positive year. If you put your hand down, get it back up if you feel 2011 will be better than either 2009 or 2010.
So what does this have to do with split fees? Here’s the connection…I believe you will be busier than ever this year and filling open positions will be more…

In my 12 years recruiting I've never delivered an offer...ever! And in my 12 years recruiting I've never had a company and a candidate arrive at the decision (commonly known as the "offer"stage) without my candidate accepting...ever! Why? 'Cause I've never delivered an offer...ever!
I know many a recruiting trainer who preach client/candidate control. I also know there is no such thing...however, you can control the process to a great degree and if…

In the current climate, you can understand that many people are currently unemployed. These people vary from fresh new graduates, to laid off experienced professionals, to potential go getters from school. However, having more potential future employees around doesn’t change the fact that companies still want the best candidates.
In this day and age of the rising influence of social media and online recruitment, it is understandable that these people’s application process of choice is…

First impression thoughts and opinions are an unsightly reality of the society we live in. I’m writing this post because I believe it’s relevant for women to remain continually aware of how much they can and cannot control.
I follow a fun blog called Corporette that’s geared to women in the corporate world and it has…
