It is amazing to me how many people I meet who are not on LinkedIn. To them LinkedIn is just another social connection point, like Facebook, which they usually have. Having Facebook seems like enough for them, why have another socializing site? The response to potential candidates was felt worth sharing in case you have contacts that are still not on LinkedIn or lack the understanding of the difference between Facebook and LinkedIn:
Since it first went online in 2003,…

As smartphone adoption rates multiply and social networking behaviors increase, the mobile recruitment industry will steadily expand over the next few years. According to a Nielson report published in late 2011, 44% of Americans own a smartphone, up from just 18% two years ago. Although a Vision Mobile study reported that gaming is the top category access by 62% of all U.S. smartphones, Nielson’s “Social Media Report – Q3” states mobile social media use is also on the rise with nearly 2 of 5…

There is much debate currently flying around over the longevity of the CV in its traditional format. With video CVs and cloudbased presentation software such as Prezi bombarding the market, candidates are called upon to dream up increasingly innovative techniques simply to get in a look in at a vacancy.
Add to that soaring jobless figures and the high volume of applicants for each role, why submit a standard CV? There’s no stronger deterrent to a recruiter than a pile of CVs listing…

As Easter holidays approach, I wanted to talk about some issues that occur to me at this particular time: change of seasons ( summer to Autumn in my part of the world) means its time to take a pause and reflect, consolidate and innovate in my recruiting business.
Firstly, I will be doing some Easter marketing - small Easter gifts for the loyal clients who give us good, regular business and are the "bread and butter" clients of the company. I prefer small gifts because no one should…

“So let me just clarify your position on this, Mr Client.
You spend 30 minutes telling me all the recruiters you have used so far are hopeless, they provide zero value, they can’t find the talent you want, their service is pathetic, and they do not understand your business.
Then, we spend hours going through your needs, you are excited because we really understand you and your role, and you are confident we can access…

This blog had to be posted today. See, today is the first Monday of the month – also known as “New Hire Orientation” day at my company. I had 4 new hires in today’s class, including an amazing employee referral. This candidate had applied to a handful of jobs, but I had not given much consideration to him until one of our employees brought up his name. This employee is one of our rock stars (forgive the overused term) so I thought I should take a 2nd look. I’m glad I did. After a…

According to the National Association for Business Economics, one recent Business Week article announced that “Surveys Show that Fewer U.S. Companies Plan to Boost Hiring in 2012”. U.S. companies planning to hire people in the next six months fell to 27 percent, the lowest in at least five quarters, and 64 percent said employment will not…

I trust Gerry Crispin. So should you. He is not a career branding "expert" or any other type of new media blow hard. He has data. Real data. Dare I say "Big Data"? He doesn't make up stats and figures to promote his business.
Why do I bring this up? Well - it seems some people in the "how to network" coaching business want you to believe that 80% of the job openings are being filled through networking. And where does that stat come from? Who knows....? Not Gerry…

Right now the job search and recruiting market is in constant change. Much of this is happening due to social media, and the continued evolution of how people interact anywhere online. Being that the main source of the initial interaction between the job seeker and the employer happens online, it makes sense that this changes constantly. With that in mind there is no doubt that the future of this process could look very different even within the next few years. There is a lot of information…
