Credit extension and collection is a vital part of running a successful business. By extending credit, a company is inviting customers to do business with them. I liked Jerry E. Thurber’s Blog today, May 18, 2011 on: Social Media Background Check: 5 Things Not to Tweet – so much so that I’m doing a Blog on Blog because I feel the subject deserves a contrary assessment on the possible downsides of actually eliminating, hiding or glossing over what could be true…

Also known as: “How not to write a horribly boring job advertisement”
Let’s start with defining effective. What is the goal? The primary goal of writing a job ad is to cast out your fishing line and hope you have the right bait on the hook to attract that right person sitting at home (or at their desk at their current job – not recommended) reading the help wanted ads…right? That way you can let the ad do all the work, and only the best and most qualified…

We all have moments when we have trouble articulating what we want to say, or putting down the exact words that we want to write. This can be a big problem if it persists and keeps you from moving forward. Many people have their own techniques, habits, and solutions for when the elusive block comes – whether this is a writing block, a thinking block, or a general block of creativity doesn’t matter – because in the end, it all keeps things from getting done. Here are a few suggestions for…

We are single industry recruiters in New York City. We insist on meeting all our candidates in person. If someone is not within commuting distance of New York, we do Skype calls. I am shocked at the number of people who don't show up.
People missing appointments is part of business. It is annoying and costly. That is why your doctor calls to confirm appointments. Restaurants do the same so that their tables don’t go…

What is going to make your business grow? Hiring the right people. What is the most important asset to your organization? Hiring the right people. How are you going to meet your business objectives? Hiring the right people. Yet most organizations don’t take the time to really think about how, who, or when they are going to attract people to their organization.
For some reason, hiring is very reactive, and this puts…

A friend of mine who runs a small staffing firm in Connecticut asked me if I could recommend a software package that is not too expensive and can handle their candidate and client data.
It needs to store lots of notes on people, have good skill set sorting, etc.
Any suggestions? What does your firm use?

The tides are changing…oh, yes they are. Hang on. Get ready. The shift is happening, again.
First, let’s frame where we’re at. The Millennial Generation (those born between 1980 and 1991) is emerging as the predominate workforce. They are a larger group, collectively, than the Baby Boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) and Generation X (those born…

Given today's financial climate, we all know that this year graduate recruitment requires a different approach. It certainly doesn't make sense to abandon your graduate recruitment programme but you can, however, be smarter about your processes, the tools you use to recruit and adapt your methods to the time.
The bottom line is that there are fewer graduate positions…
