Deer are Mean

Bob sent me this. I thought you might find this humorous, or at least interesting. On this day, one to make you smile a little. He was lucky to get off with just scatches and a few bumps. Deer are mean.

Actual letter from someone who farms, writes well and tried this!

I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it.

Social Media Hiring Process

I just posted an interview with Scott Monty, the social media go-to-guy at Ford Motors. Scott recently accepted a position with Ford, and I was curious about how it transpired. There are no metrics and few job descriptions for social media positions, so I've been writing them up and trying to interview people who are hiring and getting hired.

Social Media Salaries…

How Do I Continue To Grow My Business With This Economy?

This is the single most important question for every business professional in America. We are all wondering if we will have a job, a company, clients, or frankly a country when all this finally comes to the actual bottom. I don't profess to be an expert, but I am pretty good at making money. So I thought I would take a moment to provide I believe to be helpful suggestions.

1) First, don't panic! I know it's easier said than done. However it is a proven fact, if you can remain focused… Continue

Recruiting In a Downturn Economy

As a third-party recruiter, I have received many articles and webinar invitations revolving around recruiting in a downturn economy. I would be interested in having an open dialogue with recruiters and corporate talent acquisition teams to see how they are handling our current economy.

Note: I do not open this as a camplaining session as we can all do that, but rather hopefully gain insight for the overall benefit of the group.

At the heart of the matter...

At the heart of the matter…where the real struggle lies.

Had an interesting conversation with a client this week that has stayed with me now for a few days. We began working with her team a couple of months ago around issues of diversity, inclusion, and culture change and have done some really good foundational work. The workshops and dialogues that I have facilitated have been well received and generated a buzz of ideas, questions and energy. I have even received several… Continue

Ethics in recruiting, abortion, waterboarding, affirmative action, gay marriage, religion

Perhaps this will come as a surprise to some in this community but recruiting leads to winners and losers - someone receives a new opportunity and others are left to (a) fill in the holes left by someone's departure and (b) others are "hurt" because they weren't selected for the new opportunity - as a candidate and in all likelihood as internal candidates on both sides of the departure. This scenario cascades because like the… Continue

All that Internet socializing really isn't bad for teens

“It certainly rings true that new media are inextricably woven into young people’s lives,” said Vicki Rideout, vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation and director of its program for the study of media and health. “Ethnographic studies like this are good at describing how young people fit social media into their lives. What they can’t do is document effects. This highlights the need for larger, nationally representative studies."

“But their participation is… Continue
