The truth is that clients are deserting the recruitment industry in droves. Ads for open positions are overflowing with lists of requirements for experience and education in an effort to prevent those that don’t meet stated criteria from applying. Nevertheless, various statistics reveal the low ratio of qualified applicants versus immense volumes of unqualified…

If you Google time management techniques you get 99 Million results! Obviously a lot of people are searching for the Holy Grail and there are a lot of opinions on how to find it. Let’s make it 99 million and 1 by adding my 5 cents worth on “Time Management”.
Having sat in and even delivered my fair share of Time Management sessions I’ve often pondered why the penny drops for some however others go back to their messy desks and pending…

I was looking at a number of ways for recruiters to automatically post jobs and other content onto Twitter, LinkedIn and all the other social channels. There are lots of ways to do this and it is really very simple to set this up. I've put together a short video demonstrating how to use the free version of Hootsuite to schedule posts and also connect to an RSS feed to do this automatically.
While I'm using Hootsuite to automate and schedule my content it is very easy to see how this…

When your vendor talks about SEO for Recruiting, what they really mean is that SEO for Recruiting is one of those terms that sounds really cool, even though they have no idea what the hell SEO for Recruiting actually means. Which is ironic, because they’re using excellent keyword…

While recruiting is ultimately a rewarding profession, it's one that comes with it's share of stress and frustration. Many recruiters shy away from contract staffing because they think it will only add to their stress. But in fact, contract staffing can help relieve many common causes of recruiter stress, including:
- Unpredictable income. This is the number-one source of stress for many direct hire recruiters. No matter how many placements…

I read a ton of blogs, participate in a lot of Twitter chats (or as I call them, “pithy parties”) and listen in on a lot of presentations about trends in talent acquisition and HR technology. But what’s trendy among the industry “influencers” who need your company’s cash to keep the lights on don’t necessarily jibe with the stuff…

When job boards hit the scene over 15 years ago, they firmly grabbed a solid spot in online recruiting. As job boards have evolved, it has become an understatement to refer to them as simply job boards any longer. They have morphed into several different types of online job search and recruiting…

This is the third time I’ve had the honor of judging the iTalent competition for new recruiting technologies in conjunction with HROToday, and I can safely say that the 3 finalists in last week’s European competition would all have trounced the competition in any previous event. All fill a definite market need, a…

Passive candidates are the hard to find, and hard to get players. Whatever your particular definition of “passive” is, the idea is the same; someone who isn’t looking for a job. For recruiters and sourcers, it is the difference between reactive and proactive approaches and techniques.
Passive candidates are recruiting gold for a gaggle of…

Including recommendation letters into job applications can be a sticky process. If the chosen recommender fails to mention key attributes the candidate would like highlighted, the opportunity to impress the hiring manger may be drastically reduced. On the reverse side, a recommender may very well send an overly enthusiastic account of the candidate which…

I’ve read literally hundreds of employment contracts over the years. I’ve written a fair few of them myself too.
It’s pretty common for most employers to include some kind of non-compete clause within their employment agreements in an attempt to protect their best interests.
These clauses are often referred to as a ‘Restraint of Trade’ and usually prevent an…

Companies will spend an estimated $103 billion this year alone on HRO providers, and a recent Towers Watson survey reported 44% of these companies planned on increasing this spend in the year to come. Despite these impressive numbers, the sustainability, scalability and even viability of this industry over the coming decade seems less…

Recruitment agencies also know as employment agencies work as the interface between prospective employers and job seekers. When it comes to IT recruitment agencies, both public and private sector agencies follow a similar kind of protocol of hiring manpower. However, there are few differences between the work of private recruitment agencies. Private recruitment agencies charge a flat fee or a percentage…
