Why RecruitingBlogs.com Will Live Long and Prosper...

Seeing that Recruitingblogs.com does not infringe on trade secrets, customers or impose unfair competition to Jobster I think that Jason Davis can rest easily…More to come but some useful tid-bits below

I LOVE YOU,

WorkFarce

The purpose of enforcing a non-compete agreement “is to protect an employer from unfair competition by a former employee without imposing unreasonable restraint on the later.”2 “Protection of the employer, not punishment of…

Note To The Membership of RecruitingBlogs.com

Last Thursday, I received a letter from Lawyers representing Jobster letting me know I had to shut down RecruitingBlogs.com immediately or Jobster would take action. They say that RecruitingBlogs.com is causing damage

to their business and that I am in violation of my non compete.

I started RecruitingBlogs.com in its current form while still at…

The Research Continues...

So, as usual, I continue my research by observing those around me. Write what you know. The most recent hypothesis I have been testing is that there is a definite difference between GenX and GenY, and it is more than just age.

I am a GenX'er - my parents divorced early on in my life, and my mom worked full-time, so I was a latch-key kid. I was (and still am) very independent. I did my own thing, and was usually left to my own devices. I had chores. I had to do my homework. I had…

Recruiters on LinkedIn

Paul, thank you for the easy instructions on how to add the LinkedIn button to my profile... you made it easy, even for sometimes "technically challenged” bloggers!

Are we ready?

We've been working like donkey's over at the DEA getting this new labor exchange system operational. What a right pain in the ass it has been. But it's been a fun project to do, nonetheless. At least we can say "so long, fare well, auf wiedersehn, good night... (cue music)" to our friends over at the AJB. Let's give it up for private industry, y'all. If TheChad is reading this, what's our state count up to again?

On "actions speak louder than words"...

"That's a key thing to remember. Having the idea is only one part of the thought leadership story. Execution and demonstration are the other pieces. Ideas, in and of themselves, are a dime a dozen and the province of writers and inventors. Actually doing the thing in a way that others can emulate is worth a million bucks."…

Establishing a biotech presence in the US?

I have been running Cortex Search Inc. out of Toronto, Canada. My firm is me, myself and I, but I generate a nice revenue stream each year from split fees, maybe about 20% of my revenue each year comes this year, depending on the year.

I am interested in growing either my splits network, or taking on new consultants based in the US.

I have provided more details on my other blog; www.formerscienceguy.com

Add a LinkedIn button to your profile page

For those like me who are sometimes (in my case frequently) challenged about how to make a profile page look better here is how to add a LinkedIn button (one that connects to your LinkedIn profile) to your profile page.

After doing this I invite…

Your Resume Is A Story

Excerpted from the Standout Jobs blog: http://blog.standoutjobs.com/your-resume-is-a-story/

Resumes should be more like stories and less like grocery lists.

How can we make resumes more into stories? Your feedback and suggestions are appreciated!

On the recruiting technology "Productivity Paradox"...

"The bottom line is that in order to have a successful recruitment system implementation, the recruiter still needs to know how to recruit, and the system needs to be perceived as a valuable tool in managing the workload...ultimately a recruitment system will only be as good as the people using it."

On sucky recruiters' excuse-making...

"We've heard all the reasons why you can't deliver strong candidates — not enough money, too many skills and requirements, not enough time, bad ads, candidates don't want to relocate, etc. Enough already! We don't need to pay for recruiters who can't find top candidates. This is your #1 job! Get creative...Just stop making excuses."…

Research: The Ragan Way

I am generally speaking, a pretty perceptive person. I tend to trust my instincts moreso than statistics or the like. I remember when I was in the 8th grade, my science fair project was unlike anything anyone else did. One reason was that I hated science and thought that logic was overrated. The other was that I was a weird kid. My science fair project was to determine if Extra Sensory Perception is more prevalent in twins than other siblings.

I…

Top 10 Things Most Likely to be Overheard at SHRM 2007 in Las Vegas.

In preparation for SHRM 2007 in Las Vegas, I asked bunch of clients and industry contacts to share what they thought was most likely to be overheard at the conference.

And the winners are...

10. Is that Cheezhead or a Philip Seymour Hoffman look alike?

Pardon me...

Why do I hear recruiters say that it is an intrusion to call a candidate who isn’t actively looking? I’m tired of it. It isn’t an intrusion unless you are rude about the way you present yourself. It is FLATTERY!! I love receiving a call from someone trying to recruit me because they either found me to be in the top 10% of my field, or someone else thought enough of me to pass my name and number along because I’m all…
