Fixing Staffing One Slap at a Time

It's funny to think that nowadays we can rent a little space in a virtual world and plant a stake in the ground and call it our own. Some people will come by for a visit to take a look around and others set up camp right beside you. I'm going to be setting up shop in order to make friends and create a space where people can drop by to read and chat about staffing, technology and well...staffing technology.

The Job Hunt | Old School V.S. New School | Reuling and Associates Recruitment Firm | 630.446.0746

Are there really new rules to the job hunt? If you answered NO then you must not be using social media. The days are gone when simply posting your resume on Monster, e-mailing former colleagues, and surfing company websites for possible openings is enough. These days, if you are truly serious about being hired, you really need to put your iPhone and computer to work. That means getting the word out on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, sending instant job-search updates via… Continue

You can find a Job on Twitter…..

People tend to look at me with disbelief when I tell them that if it weren’t for Twitter, and more specifically the advent of social media, I would never have garnered a career in the field that I am interested in as soon as I graduated from college.

I began accessing Twitter through an iPhone application that locates other users in close proximity to you and shows you their tweets. This was important because it allowed me to connect with people in the area and discuss relevant topics.… Continue

Innovation and Creativity from Big Hotel Corp.

I am a huge advocate or being different and being a leader rather than reacting to what everyone else is doing. So when I see articles like this (click here, it’s worth it. I promise!) http://www.hotelinteractive.com/article.aspx?articleid=15860 about major companies being creative and cutting edge I get really excited!

THE JOY OF SIX ! SIX POINTERS IN GETTING THE BEST OUT OF YOUR RECRUITER

I keep hearing mixed forecasts as far as the economy is concerned for 2010 and prospects for the job market and professionals who work within it.

There has certainly been some over bullish predictions by some in the recruitment sector, some by those who should actually know better. I take the view that things have perhaps begun to bottom out a little, but there is still sufficient uncertainty across a number of industries and sectors that will dampen down anything that resembles a… Continue

Compassionate HR: What’s Your Company Doing To Improve The Community

written by Margo Rose

Monday, January 11th, I took my maiden voyage into the world of blogtalkradio show Compassionate HR My co-host Shenee Rutt ,and I wanted to start a show that featured HR Pros who were going beyond the call of duty to be stewards in their community. The idea for this show was inspired from a conversation that I had with Karla Porter and Paul Paris. It’s something I really wanted to do, and… Continue

My Social Networking Manifesto: Why I won't change.

For me, social networking is part of my job. Its a portion of how I brand our business. Its a way to cultivate relationships with partners, clients and influencers. Its how I keep up to date on what other vendors are doing.

It’s also been instrumental in my conversion of my blog from ERE to ImSoCorporate.com this fall. It has been through RT’s on twitter and networkedblogs.com on facebook – that I have met some really smart, interesting people.

On the flip side, if you… Continue

Recruiting in the light of the book - "The Discipline of Market Leaders"

I was pondering on the great business book, "The Discipline of Market Leaders" written by Michael Tracey & Fred Wiersema. The authors in their research work came out with three disciplines that exist for successful companies in the world:
1. Operational excellence
2. Product leadership
3. Customer intimacy
and I had to ask myself this question - "Where does recruiting fall into?" Any suggestion from any one?

Happy New Year Everyone!! We enter a new decade…

2009 on the whole would probably be a year for most companies and people to forget. The implications of the credit crunch which began in 2008 were fully felt within 2009 across the world. End-Clients deferred projects which had no immediate return this resulted in… Continue

Dealing with your Donkey (making the best of a bad career situation).

(My blog targets people outside of Recruitment. Nonetheless, I thought my colleagues would be able to relate and forward the advice along to those outside our realm.)

Does your current job situation leave you empty, defeated, angry, morally devoid, or just bored? Any of these feelings is sure to fuel the fire by tanking your job satisfaction and performance. What can be done?

Leadership Values

When the new year begins the lists come out and it's always time to see who views what as "winners", "losers", and/or what's in store for the next twelve months or so.

The other thing that happens, at least for me, is that this time of year makes you think of where things have been, what's changed, and what worked and what didn't. It also makes me… Continue

4 Attributes That Recruiters Should Try And Develop In 2010

I’ve been reading some excellent forecasts for trends and developments in 2010 that certainly excite and encourage me to think that this could be a very interesting and challenging year. I’m too much of a social media and technology amateur though to try my own predictions!

I do know, however, that recruiters will need a whole different set of skills, goals and targets if they are to succeed and profit from all the predicted advancements and developments.

Building and… Continue

Video Interview Job Candidates from your Computer

One of the first steps in the recruiting process involves screening potential candidates for an approved job opening. This is typically done with telephone calls today. It is a low cost, fast, and an effective means of quickly going through basic requirements with a candidate. However since you can't see the candidate you have no idea if they are sitting in front of Wikipedia, have open books on their desk, or have other reference material nearby. In other words, how do you really know that the… Continue

Mindless Optimism

There is something said for Mindless Optimism. I heard the term a few weeks ago. I think it came from an Op Ed in the Wall Street Journal in which someone was asked at a party how they were approaching 2010. The answer was with Mindless Optimism. What a great thought for today. Coming off of the last year or two, mindlessness feels pretty good, and optimism is always good.

But I see more wisdom in the term than that. I think mindless optimism gives us the freedom to focus on what we… Continue

Rebuilding the Candidate Pipeline

Guess what? You’re to blame for the weak hires over the last year. It’s so your fault! You have been here all year and with a zero candidate pipeline. Z-E-R-O!

Where is the recruiting strategy you promised? Why didn’t we hire any “Rock Star” candidates that were laid off? What happened to the process, the database, and the improved time to fill? Bro, where is the Beef?

Okay, stop. Rewind to January 2009.

Half the recruiting team was let go and the work load… Continue

20 tricky interview questions...and how NOT to answer them!

There are few things more daunting than attending a job interview. That's why it's good to prepare by considering some of the questions you might be asked. Just make sure you don't end up giving any of these answers....

Interviewer: What is your greatest accomplishment?

Interviewee: Finishing Phantom Mutant Death Fighter 3 for PC - and in work time too! Have you played it?

Interviewer: Could you sell me this pen?

Interviewee (shouting): Get your pens, only… Continue

Thought: Transition through Change

One of the benefits of being a part of a community like twitter, linkedin or any other face-to-face and/or internet community is that you have the ability to meet and interact with people that you would otherwise not. You have a chance to change your own typical routine and better show and witness the similarities people share, rather than the… Continue
