It certainly has been a while since I've done any active posting, and while I've enjoyed taking in some of the posts and discussions as a lurker figured it is about time I put something out there of my own again.
Over the past couple of months there have been a couple of big wins and some equally disappointing mishaps. Oddly enough, I find myself crediting and blaming the same thing in both instances...the process. My recruiting team has a very well-defined process by which a manager… Continue
The term ‘social recruiting’ is soooooo hot right now. It’s on the lips of recruitment commentators, consultants, recruiters, and vendors. There is even a global wave of conferences and seminars on the topic.
So what does social recruiting mean? Well, from my observations, it… Continue
I have some indelible memories, like when my daughter was born and the day I got Google Voice. The Sun broke through dark clouds and I was totally like thank you Jesus! Finally, I can make free VOIP calls anywhere in the U.S with free SMS messaging!
Queue the Gary Wright’s “Dream Weaver” and slip away from away from all this high unemployment shouting, “I have Google Voice! I have Google Voice!”
It's funny, people are always asking me about what I see inside my crystal ball, where are things headed in the market or what's hot? They seem to be intersted in the newest tricks, places to go on the web, social networks and how to find the best talent. My first thought is usually that before you do anything new you have to first look at all the tricks and tools you already have.
The truth is that I really don't have anything new to tell people about. Most of my thoughts and… Continue

I’m into tools. I’m not talking the software kind, but the kind you can hold in your hand. I like the weighty feel of a 22 oz. framing hammer. The kind you can really use to bash stuff, with the life-saving pick-axe-like claw at the end. (In the event you start falling, you slam that sucker into the roof and then hold on!) Or, the fluid motion of a chop saw. Or, the rhythmic-clicking of a socket wrench. All that may sound funny… Continue
I have been giving a lot of thought to dropping Facebook for personal use. Don’t get me wrong, it is really fun. Everyone knows girls (and boys) just want to have fun! I had originally joined with the idea of using it just for business, as I do with Twitter, LinkedIn, and many others, but slowly found that all my friends were on Facebook. We started conversing about our personal lives. I had a few business consultants say it was good to let your customers see the more “playful” side of… Continue

Recruitment and staffing has been around a long time. And I have had the fortune to witness its evolution for almost 30 years. I have worked in many countries and recruited across many sectors.
And guess what I have learned.
The more things change… the more they stay the same!
It was not that long ago that if you walked into a successful recruitment office, every person you saw was on the phone. And why not? There was no computer to tap away on. There was no… Continue

I admit, I have a fear of commitment on so many things and an unwavering loyalty to certain things that I commit to.
Example #1 Commitment Fear – I am almost OCD when it comes to making decisions on no brainer things in my life (at work, no issues w/this – odd? yes) like flavor of ice cream (do I do vanilla, vanilla bean, french vanilla? AND YES there is a difference) where to go on vacation, etc. because I don’t want to commit to any one thing and always be questioning if the other option… Continue

To meet today’s challenges, companies world-wide are searching for ways to do more with less. While many strategies offer streamlined processes and ways to add value, the biggest opportunities to meet this challenge lie within the talent themselves and are critical to future success:
• Finding the right talent
• Retaining your top performers
• Ensuring your best employees have the opportunity to thrive
Managing talent can be tough, but it doesn’t have to be. The… Continue
This was a thought provoking question posted on LinkedIn. What do you think? here's my answer:
“I believe that many so called recruiters and job boards are capitalizing on the high numbers of people ACTIVELY seeking work in order to somehow make it through, themselves. For me, I'm not doing this because I think it dilutes a brand. People should never have to pay for a job. EVER. Job boards are for lazy agency recruiters who don't have time to actually research and source to find… Continue
