McCain and Obama Unite on H1B Issue

November 5th is rapidly approaching us. With so much talk in the news lately about the difference in opinions between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama, I thought it would be good to address an issue that they both have similar views on – they both support argument that H1B Visa’s issued in the United States per year to be expanded.

Death of Contingent Search

I read an interesting article over the weekend. It's called "The Death of Contingency Search", written by Adam Robinson, Founder & Editor of Better Hiring Today (http://betterhiringtoday.com/2008/09/10/the-death-of-contingent-search/). He makes some interesting points. One of them is - "Recruiting is no longer about who you know. It's about throughput". I thought this paragraph was particularly relevant:

"Which brings me to the issue at hand - the massive change going on in the… Continue

Job Interview Tip: Turn off your cell phone!

Cell phones are an incredible convenience for all of us, but also a major source of irritation when people don’t remember their manners while using them in public places. One of the biggest blunders you can make? Answering your phone while in a job interview!! Seems obvious, I know, but believe me, it happens. If you answer your cell while in an interview for medical sales, pharmaceutical sales, laboratory sales, clinical diagnostics sales, medical supplies sales, pathology sales, imaging… Continue

Future Historians on Social Branding

The other night I was reading a bedtime dinosaur book to my two "older" boys (ages 7 and 3). Looking at the vibrant illustrations in the book, my adroit 7 year old asked, "Dad, if Paleontologists learned about the dinosaurs through fossils, then how do they know what colors they were?" "Good question!" I replied proudly. "Mostly they don't. They can guess and estimate about the color of the creatures from what they know about their feeding habits and their environment. But they don't really… Continue

Sourcing Chat TODAY

SunMicro is firing and then hiring - an ERE post yesterday reported that SunMicro let all their recruiters and sourcers go and then told them to re-apply (if they still wanted to work there) and that they would be "reconsidered" according to skills. I wonder what the re-hire "terms"will be?

"Sun has announced the need to reduce overall spending in its fiscal year 2009, including a reduction in headcount."

10 Recruiting trends for 2009

As the world economies seems to be collapsing around us what will be the best practices in recruiting for 2009? Will video resumes be the killer app? Will niche job boards take over from the big boards? Will social media be the killer app?

Nope, none of these alone will get you the best candidates. Sorry.

If the economies do completely collapse there are a couple of outcomes; unemployment will rise as companies go under and people in secure jobs will be less likely to want… Continue

Looking for US based Medical Device recruiters

This really isn't a blog entry, it's more of a help me help a friend out. He is a senior exec with a medical device company and he is looking to hire about 10 people in the next year and wanted to partner with one or two niche firms.

I appreciate the help.

Britney's Team Kills Twitter

Like OMG for reals, Britney is on the Twitterand you can totally do what she is doing right after she does it... or maybe you can just do what her PR team is saying she's doing... or maybe you can just do what her Social Media team wants you to think she is doing...

You get the idea, right?

Technology sheet-use in job interview to get that medical sales job!

Sometimes candidates with degrees in the sciences find that they have a lot more information that the employer might want to know about them that just won’t fit in the traditional resume format. To combat that issue and give yourself an interview edge, consider building a “Technology Sheet” - this is a one-page, column-formated accounting of all of the technologies that you are familiar with…some candidates actually rate their expertise with each (1 to 10).

It not always necessary to… Continue

Web 2.0 and Social Networkng - a tech perspective

With all the talk on recruiting forums and blogs about Web 2.0, here's a tech look at Social Networking...

"Imagine being able to have an enterprise form that had all relevant transaction data complete with real-time updates from Twitter, Facebook or any other social networking app regarding conversations with the customer? Or being able to see who cross-shopped and then purchased a customized product and what they had been promised in terms of delivery date? This is… Continue
