one of the things i have consistently done in my recruitment efforts is look at the potential of each candidate. while i do not share what my thoughts are on this front with the candidate, i believe it is so important to know what roles you believe the person can play in the future. what it allows you as the recruiter to do is really consult with your hiring managers about what their current needs are and, more importantly, what their future needs are. they can start to game plan a development…

I hesitate to say that I am not an open networker because, to many people, that makes me a completely closed networker and that's not true either. “Open networking” is a term used to describe people who will accept any social network invitation they receive without regard to relationship, approach or justification for the invitation.
Recently I received a call from fellow recruiter / blogger / twitterer

so, i have been reading recruiting blogs for many years and found them to be incredibly informative for most of that time. in the not too distant past, my company (which will go unnamed) asked me to create a company related blog for each of the markets i served. i resisted most of the time feeling as though i didn't have much to contribute, plus i didn't feel as though i had enough to say. i don't know why, but early this morning i changed my mind and here i go. i someone reads this and finds…

Emotions Run Wild When You Leave a Job!
Who hasn’t experienced a sense of relief after a downsizing, firing, or quitting a bad job? Often, this relief is mixed with a feeling of euphoria; a happiness that has no basis in reality. This euphoria can last for several weeks. How long it lasts depends upon the personality of the…

I've had a question running around in my head for well over a year now...
What job sites use Google as their core traffic provider? So I thought I'd take some time perform some research, using Hitwise, and then it prompted yet another question...
What job sites use Indeed as their core traffic provider?
So I took some time and gathered the following one week worth of data from Hitwise

Note to members of the LinkedIn group here on RecruitingBlogs.com.
Paul and I have received a number of unhappy emails from people in that group because of email abuse from a very small amount of people.
We are going to remove the members from the group who started this and it is my hope that there can be a certain level of respect.
every member of that group has been sent a note about the issue and the guidelines and the option of course to be removed. I hope…

Purple Squirrels and Paranoia: the first SourceCon challenge of 2008 and how I won it.
What a trip, I won the SourceCon challenge. The reasons I did are a mix of luck, timing, help from friends, inspiration, well placed breaks, spying on what the other contestants were doing, some slight misdirection, and some skill. I think with the right mix of those components anyone of the other people participating could've won. The differences between us all were slight.
I…
