Have you been following the defriending trend? The notable tip of the iceberg is the Burger King campaign offering a Whopper in exchange for deleting friends on Facebook.

Job hunting can be a very difficult time for candidates. Looking the the right job, dealing with recruiters, getting the interview, and finaly receiving a suitable offer.
Most jobs end up having only a few candidates make the shortlist for the interview stage. For a candidate getting to the interview stage means they are one or two steps away from a potential offer, they just need to pass the interview and not crash and burn.
The best way to get through the interview is…

Am I a different person at work and at home? Should I be? Isn't being me the thing I do best?
At the start of my career I used to laugh at some girls in my office, who had an official phone voice..... you know the types, they would be talking to you normally, the phone would ring and then the voice would lower, their vocabulary would dramatically increase and the…

Is your Recruiting Team ready for tomorrow?
Many Recruiters and Recruitment Managers do not see that the recruiting profession is changing. The skills that made Recruiters successful in the past will not bring organizations to the front of the war for talent in the future and the Recruiters of tomorrow will not find success using the same techniques that make them successful today. The Recruiter of tomorrow will embrace online social networking and viral marketing techniques. The…

WISE in everything you do.
W Willingness (to listen and change, to both the client and the candidate because they both have something to add to the recruitment process)
I Integrity If you don't have integrity you won't last and your clients will not come back, more importantly your candiddates will quickly pass the word about you, probably on a recruiting blog!
S Simplicity. Straight talk,…

Buzz on Twitter is that Recruiters are spamming on LinkedIn - Are they?
II recently posted this to LinkedIn Q&A and it has ignited quite a debate, so I'm curious to see what the response is here at Recruiting Blogs?

TGIS [Thank Goodness It's Sumser!]
This week John transitions from big-picture thinking [and talk of community] to something more reflective [talking about relationships]. And, in reporting the value he is getting from his "

What makes me a smart recruiter?
A brilliant yet (smart) recruiter goes beyond the obvious in qualifying not only the candidate(s) but the client(s) as well. Where some recruiters fall short is in not truly knowing both the client and candidate to make the deal happen.
Now please understand that not all clients and candidates are truthful in acceptance and intentions and/or other offers, etc; now some clients don’t like to share other candidates skill sets (ranking in…

I work in the technology world, specifically hardware engineers (chip, board and system) and technical sales and marketing. I worked for Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector for 21 years in sales prior to becoming a recruiter. As a result I don't only work with a hiring manager on one position, but rather a client, understanding their organization and structure, the products they sell and I have a sense not only of the skill sets they are looking for, but also the type of personality that…

In critical economic times like we're seeing today , the " Smart Recruiter(s) " stay focussed in the areas that made them Good Recruiters in the first place . I believe creativity will become a more important tool in garnering both openings & candidates . Don't try to be more than what you are .. or .. do something you're not familiar with . These simple, tried and true tenets make me a Smart Recruiter:
1. Employ the "Golden Rule" every day...."do unto others...."
2. The truth is easy to remember so shoot straight with everybody, all the time and don't play games
3. Know that my role is "Agent for Information"...know what motivates a manager and a candidate to act, deal in information exchange and don't waste time trying to talk people into doing something. Don't force it, if it's right, it will…

Being a smart Recruiter means bringing your special skills and attributes to the table and using them to their full advantage.
Some people in recruiting excel in sales. They enjoy calling candidates and convincing them to take a look at an opportunity. Other Recruiters are great at networking. Still others enjoy the thrill of the hunt and tracking down names on-line.
What makes anyone a smart Recruiter is using what they are best at and tailoring their recruiting…
