If you’re like many, you’re standing by observing this social networking frenzy – nothing short of a blitz – and wondering, what IS this stuff?? And why would I want to “follow” my local TV station anyway? It’s a big waste of time, right? Not so fast…
The simple fact is, there may soon come a time when having a Twitter account will be as critical to a business person as having a Blackberry. No longer an option, but a necessity. So get past your disdain for that which you’re not… Continue

One popular automaker is planning to create hundreds of San Antonio jobs (Click here).
Toyota recently announced its plan to recreate a second production shift at the company's Tundra pick-up truck assembly plant in San Antonio. The plan, expected to be in place by February 2010, could create up to 850 jobs.
An interesting question indeed. There are many recruiters, search consultants, headhunters or talent acquisition specialists (for the purpose of this article, all titles are interchangeable) whose skill and talent closely mirrors the approach he took to playing basketball.
Additionally, if you look at his career resume for his years in the NBA, as well as where he went to school, you will see the same trend that mirrors the career trajectory of a recruiter.
Hold on to your hats, folks. Your HR team is the new face of PR. Human Resource departments aren’t just cubicles full of paper processing, copy making, policy writing drones, they are the future of your company’s business success. Ask any corporate human resource professional, and they will tell you that they wear many hats from recruiting, to referee, operations expert, legal counsel, trainer, and now branding, public relations, and marketing experts. Yes, you heard me correctly, Public… Continue
With the economy beginning to turn around, entry-level job seekers are starting to shop around the job market instead of jumping at the first company who offers them a paycheck. Choosing a first job is a tough decision for anyone, but for recent college graduates, it’s their first leap into the real world.
A few months prior to graduation; my classes, email inbox and seemingly every conversation I had with my parents revolved around my job search. I hadn’t even ordered my cap and… Continue

Because the market is loaded with high unemployment, hiring managers are approaching candidates directly to circumvent paying fees to recruiters. Corporate recruiters are therefore competing with the very professionals they’re assigned to support. Agencies, sensing a schism and a possible opportunity to snap up a quick albeit reduced fee, are vying to squeeze a toe in the door with the hiring manager and pitching the line, “I can do it better for less and without politics.”
As a Recruiter, you send the job description to a candidate to review for consideration and potential submission to your customer, have a “great” phone conversation, lock up the details, psych up your Sales Guy with the “perfect” candidate and boom…after sending the resume to the Sales Guy to send to your customer, you hear crickets. Chirp, chirp. Your candidate falls off the face of the earth.
Or as a Sales Guy, you send the “perfect” candidate… Continue

I'll never forget the moment I saw 9,000 as the number of applicants to one position I was working on. I was an internal consultant to a Fortune 500 company and the shock I got from registering the number 9,000 was dumbfounding. How the heck was I supposed to feel that 9,000 people had a fair shot at the position? And how could I possibly feel confident that I had presented only the absolute best qualified candidates? I sat back and tried to breathe through this sudden crisis of the mind and… Continue
So often, I have people that are looking for a new job, network with me but they can’t tell me what kind of position they are seeking. Sometimes they only know they don’t want to do the same thing as their previous position, or they don’t want to ‘limit’ their options, or they just don’t know what’s available. They tell me they are “open right now”.
I can’t help you if you can’t tell me what it is you want!
That may sound obvious, but to a great many job seekers it’s the… Continue

In the past I have pondered the phenomena of entitlement associated with Gen Y and Millenials. Well, hold the phone...I think the past 10 months has given all of us - Gen X'ers and Y'ers and beyond - a little dose of reality. 2009, so far, has shown us economic turmoil that most of us have never experienced in our lifetimes - and hopefully never will again. Collapse of the housing market, unemployment rates through the roof, banking crisis, bankruptcies, layoffs...you name it. It all equals one… Continue

It’s Friday. You got a date planned with your soul mate. Reservations were made in advance. Then Tom over in Accounting, a total Dork with a capital D, asks for an activity Report on all the candidates in the last six months.
Cindy in the PMO Group created half dozen flow charts on the Recruiting process. She is so impressed with her flowcharts she is convinced that this is the process that all Recruiters should follow. Problem. The flow chart includes weekly meal… Continue
It's a great job when it all comes together isn't it?
The last 12 months haven't been the best in industry, many people struggling to stay afloat, keep themselves relevant and employed across all markets. But TODAY, I got my groove back...
It didn't start well today. The bat signal was being loud and clear from a distressed constituent (AKA A grumpy/distressed call from the business). A hiring emergency was happening... "holy recruitment issues… Continue
I am one of those extremely lucky men who has the good fortune to get critiqued by my wife on a daily basis. I am not the only one, you know who you are out there if you’re like me, or better still…like my wife. Yes, on a daily basis as I am having what I believe might be a conversation about dinner at the Jones’ the night before, or the upcoming Scout meetings for the boys – I am being covertly scrutinized from head to toe about everything from the length of my hair or nails, my… Continue

I'm hearing from more and more good candidates how they get good feedback from the interview process and then, ... nothing. Their recruiters don't make any effort for closure and candidates are becoming more concerned that employers are making calls, checking backgrounds and/or using informal channels to weed out candidates earlier - and, like identity theft, if there's something out there that is wrong or erroneous - it has a definite impact on the candidate without recourse or even being… Continue
