I was working the last 6 months onsite for one of my clients. The company was 2 hours from home so I lived in the Silicon Valley near my client's site and came home for the week-ends. While I loved the work, I can say the working away from home can be less than convenient. I had a great home-away-from home at the Homewood Suites in Santa Clara. Ask for Doyle if you are ever there.
I finished my contract and I am now working back at the home office, trying to get back into the… Continue
Jay, 32, came to Silicon Valley to work in 2005, after obtaining a doctorate from Cornell in electrical engineering. After four years in the valley, his green card was in process, his job seemed secure, and then "... The Crunch.
Now we can see the true holes in our H1-B immigration policies...

Well, the first recruiter meet up in the Philadelphia area has come and gone and I have to say it was a great success. With over 60 recruiters strong, the conversation was full of really strong best practices and strategy sharing regarding social media and leveraging web 2.0 technologies in our day to day. So much of our job is about process, strategy and now more than ever technology.
A while back, some genius decided to cut and paste Full job description from Recruit Alliance which caused a huge security threat to Recruit Alliance and everyone that uses it. As a result, the site was forced to ‘lock’ it’s descriptions in order to protect its intellectual properties and the integrity of the service. Rightfully so!! Inadvertently, locking the descriptions threw a wrench in the way I organize and track of my reqs which caused a logistics nightmare for me. I called over to the… Continue
Football is a violent sport- that's one of the reasons why we enjoy it- because the violence is in support of the goal; part of the price of victory. Two weeks ago, the Steelers-Ravens collision was one of the most violent football games I ever watched- scary at times in its intensity.
So when you watch the Super Bowl, the ads have always… Continue
With more and more companies reducing headcount a trend has emerged that has me baffled. As you might expect we’ve targeted companies that are performing poorly because they are easier to recruit from since logically many more people are looking to “jump ship”, but what we’ve seen is that while many of these potential candidates are expecting to be let go the are actually waiting around for it to happen.
Looking for a six figure job? How about six figures in six months? What will you do? It's only the best job in the world!
"The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef is a newly created position. There are a few minor tasks that need to be taken care of, but the most important duty is to report back to Tourism Queensland (and the world) and let us know what’s taking place on the Islands of the Great Barrier…Continue
With over 200 graduates through my Global Mentor Program you can understand that I am witness to commonalities in shortcomings, regularities in obstacles confronted, and similarities in approaches done poorly. Many of the mentoring delegates in the very beginning of their six months working with me, ask the same single question (although the wording may vary, the intent is exact):
After attending previous ERE and ASA conferences and working with staffing clients over the years, I have been told many times over and over...the staffing companies need to 'think forward". This was the biggest reason I left my career in human resources (recruitment and training) and started putting my skills, knowledge and experience to use. My partner and I wanted to create a software that was specific to the staffing industry that they could provide to their candidates. We wanted to create… Continue

I simply love this story for a number of reasons, a) my son was named from it. (as a Recruiter, we had a short list of names when my son was being born (2 for boys, 2 for girls). When he came out the doctor announced "It's a boy! What's his name?". I mentioned our short list... the doctor said..."easy.. Zachary..... Zachary Quack") b) the Onomatopoeia and c) The lessons you can relate to day to day… Continue
Seems that several lobbyists managed to convince the House to insert Buy American - initially prohibiting the purchase of foreign iron and steel for any infrastructure project in the bill. Not only does Obama's bill smell like a pig sty because all of the pork in the bill but if many of the trades had their way, steel wouldn't be the only product or service covered by Buy American…Continue

Below is my comment that I would leave on recruiterearth but I can't.
My Comment:
I just watched this video and this is an example of how social networking can go wrong. It's an example of how free software can make it so easy to fool people, and the allure of perceived fame is just too strong for some to resist. Here is the original post with lots of… Continue

As a recruiter, you sometimes may need to coach candidates on how to present themselves in the best possible light to a prospective employer. You know that this candidate is highly qualified for the position you are seeking to fill, but their resume and interviewing skills don’t show their full potential. Here’s a simple tool you can use to coach the candidate to shine.
In a recent post we discussed the difference between the old resume style and… Continue
