It’s true: anyone and his or her dog can have their own job board. Actually, the dog could probably run the board, thanks to Job*a*matic (well, maybe not my dog – she sleeps too much).
How many job boards is too many? Peter Weddle says we have 100,000 or so – but only a small percentage of these makes money. If it seems like there’s been an sharp… Continue
TruLondon 2 kicks off in a few weeks time, and I wanted to share my thoughts on what an Unconference is all about, and the upcoming event in a few weeks time - TRUlondon 2.
So in the spirit of unconferences, I have forsaken the keyboard and recorded this short video blog instead:
Ifyou are having problems viewing, here is the direct YouTube link http://bit.ly/837ZuK
Got an interesting information shared by my friend AK Menon whose firm Options did a survey focused on the Auto sector.
attraction to company culture plays the most dominant part in a job seeker’s preference of a future employer. While the job seekers were divided about their most preferred future employer, irrespective of the company they voted for, the company culture was a major decision making factor.
My first blog - ever, folks! I was listening to Recruiter's House Party last week on Blog Talk Radio, and one the hosts – Geoff Webb suggested that he would like to see “active” and “passive” labels dropped in the next year. I half way agree with him, it’s so “y2k-ish!”
The term “active” is good and will probably continue to be used because it still refers to a candidate who is actively searching or has already applied for a position. But, I have never liked the term “passive.” Geoff… Continue

There are many times when it would be great to have a recording (either audio or video) of an interview with a candidate. You could go back through the interview later to review responses, it could be used afterwards for coaching the candidate, and you could forward recordings of great prospects to the hiring manager/company. We believe there are two major issues to consider when deciding to record:
1) Is it legal to record, and if so under what circumstances?
2) Is it ethical,… Continue
It is said in a Call to Conscience (the Landmark speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) “that his dream of American moral possibilities expressed a universal hope for mankind.”
I was barely 10 days old when he gave the Eulogy for the youth of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church who were murdered. But these words are still fitting today in many ways..
“And so I stand here to say this afternoon to all assembled here, that in spite of the darkness of this hour (Well), we must not… Continue

Even in this market some operations are having a hard time attracting talent. If this is you I am going to share with you the Big 3 reasons why you might not be attracting the talent you are hoping for.
Now I must warn you, these might not be easy to read and your first reaction might be to dismiss them. Don’t! If you can be honest with yourself about your business and procedures, be accountable to your business and be brave enough to make changes these can have a real and measurable… Continue
LinkUp, the fastest growing job search engine on the web today, announced the release of its free Android application for job seekers. Exactly like LinkUp’s iPhone app and website itself, LinkUp’s new Android app allows job seekers to search job listings that are found exclusively on company websites. LinkUp’s job search engine indexes over 22,000 company websites and updates those job listings every night. As a result, jobs on LinkUp.com and its mobile applications are always current, often… Continue
I'm frustrated. Should I expand? It could go for a while? Alright, I'll try to keep it straight.
That said I also have had a ground breaking revelation which should change the lives of all those that will read this.
OK let's start with my frustration. I'll start this by saying I am a pretty positive person, however of late, I've learned the path of the cynic and am starting to appreciate their journey! I digress, sorry. We've been doing renovations on our house of late.… Continue

Oops! Bit behind with my blog posts in 2010, sorry! I’ve lots of great excuses for this of course, but I won’t bore you with them!
So my main day job is recruiting quantity surveyors, but at the moment I’m also working with some final year business school students at a university on the outskirts of London. It’s a pilot scheme on employability which I’ll tell you about it in more detail some other time, but over the last couple of months I’ve been spending two days a week meeting… Continue

I’m not a tree hugger, well I am, but not in the ‘protest and chain myself to a bark for the day’ type of tree hugger. However I do believe in karma of sorts. Allow me to take recruitment down the spiritual path for a sentence or two.
So we are all connected, from the small ant to the great white. Indeed someone told me once that if it weren’t for ants, the human race would not exist (something about the biological ecosystem community, I have no idea, and haven’t got round to… Continue

I know what you are thinking: mom told me that bragging is a bad thing. I agree that in many situations bragging is not a trait that you want to be associated with. In fact, word association may yield terms such as arrogant, audacious and egotistical.
However, I’d like to a make the claim that while in job search mode, if going about it in the right way, “bragging” might just be the key differentiator between getting the offer and coming in second place. We all know what second… Continue

What Does The Film "AVATAR" Have To Do With HR? [
Posted by: Margo Rose on Jan 17, 2010
Today I saw the movie “AVATAR.” Seeing the 3D IMAX film was indescribably vivid! Images leap off the screen, jump on your lap, and stare into your eyes. If I were in my office, and my colleagues were IMAX images, I’d say they are invading my personal space. I could develop an entire instructional design for diversity, and sensitivity training on this topic alone. As I watched the film,… Continue

I am hiring for multiple QA positions for a Software Product MNC in Bangalore.
Requirement:
- Excellent working experience on Automation tools (Selenium preferred)
- Good understanding of any object oriented programming language
- Good Educational background
- Excellent problem solving skills
Please forgive me for being technically challenged, kind of laid-back and keeping it simple with pen and paper: I really haven't been hip with the whole online networking buzz that started with myspace, so I never had an account with them or facebook. But when a business colleague told me about his contacts through LinkedIn, I thought, perhaps now's the time...it's a new year, I should really get current!
I'd been interested in the recruiting field since early 2008, I just got my… Continue
It's funny to think that nowadays we can rent a little space in a virtual world and plant a stake in the ground and call it our own. Some people will come by for a visit to take a look around and others set up camp right beside you. I'm going to be setting up shop in order to make friends and create a space where people can drop by to read and chat about staffing, technology and well...staffing technology.

Currently most of my time is spent in the world of… Continue
Are there really new rules to the job hunt? If you answered NO then you must not be using social media. The days are gone when simply posting your resume on Monster, e-mailing former colleagues, and surfing company websites for possible openings is enough. These days, if you are truly serious about being hired, you really need to put your iPhone and computer to work. That means getting the word out on social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, sending instant job-search updates via… Continue

People tend to look at me with disbelief when I tell them that if it weren’t for Twitter, and more specifically the advent of social media, I would never have garnered a career in the field that I am interested in as soon as I graduated from college.
I began accessing Twitter through an iPhone application that locates other users in close proximity to you and shows you their tweets. This was important because it allowed me to connect with people in the area and discuss relevant topics.… Continue
I am a huge advocate or being different and being a leader rather than reacting to what everyone else is doing. So when I see articles like this (click here, it’s worth it. I promise!) http://www.hotelinteractive.com/article.aspx?articleid=15860 about major companies being creative and cutting edge I get really excited!
The Hyatt Corporation has partnered with some local real estate companies in NYC to create… Continue
