Well, 2008 came to us on a high note and ended on what many have said is the lowest of lows. Mortgage crisis, housing decline and the US automotive industry on brink of collapse were the highlights of the low lights.
Going into 2009, what can we expect recruiting? I do not have a crystal ball, or even a magic eight ball, but I would venture to say to following should happen in your departments during the upcoming year:…

I joined this group because of my affinity for recruiting having served as a professional recruiter for 25+ years for a well established Executive Search firm. Today we operate a resume and interview coaching service and cater to the very same audience.
How often do you see worthy job applicants with weak resumes? A simple referral to us will yield a strengthened résumé thus enhancing their marketability. Consider how this no cost, nothing to lose investment will boost… Continue

This week John turns the New Years' page to open a new chapter only to find an old problem: social media overwhelm...
"I can't figure out how to streamline my communication process. I'd like a single interface for some of the things I do on each of the systems...I'm dropping too many balls."
Help John and the rest of us out if you the panacea for posting-ping-ping pottiness:

A year is not a very long time in
the overall scheme of things. Online, time seems to be compressed in ways that defy imagination. We measure our time and attention span in the language of machines. We live at such a frenetic pace that rarely do we stop to pause and reflect.
Change happens in front of our very eyes but we often miss it. In so doing we miss out on developing a level of appreciation for things that should come…

1. I have an innate interest in people.
2. I'm curious about people.
3. I like people.
4. I like talking to people.
5. I'm a very good listener.
And they can tell that about me and in turn they tell me EVERYTHING about themselves, and before I know it, I understand their value system and if I'm able, I can either engage them as a candidate, or provide them better service as a hiring manager. It's really that easy.

11 Ways You Create Your Own Recession
by Stephen Martile
The media seems to be hypnotized with a recession (if that’s what you want to call it). The media is just killing the minds of the masses and it’s gone too far.
You see, there have been many big ideas out there, except there is one problem. The big ideas are in the wrong direction - the ideas are on big debt instead of earning big money.
I have a close friend of mine tell me that the sky is…

I have always loved to network. Yes, it is in my blood somehow. But sometimes even I have to push myself to go to more events.
Last year I made a very mild goal of attending a minimum of two networking events every month. Within 4 months, I had attended enough events to cover my “quota” for the rest of the year.
The thing about going to networking events is that they are magic!
Do you remember when you were a small child and the excitement you felt about your…

I set up a way to search LinkedIn and Yahoo groups for school and company alumni groups. I will be adding other sources of groups in the near future.
http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/1/2_Searching_for_alumni_groups.html
Alumni groups either for companies or schools is a great place to find possible candidates or to post jobs often at no cost.
Many allow recruiters to join even if they did not attend the school or work at the company but check…

Since my business is focused on the Client Side of permanent placement recruiting, I thought it would be valuable to share what we're experiencing on this end on a regular basis. So here goes...
The last half of December is typically very slow and this year it was the same as it has been in the past, thankfully. To the contrary, the September - October - November period was not even close to anything we had seen in the past. During that period the level of fear that clients…

I don't know about you, but I've been looking forward to 2009 for the last few months. I'm always excited entering a New Year - it's like starting all over again in many ways, which makes this year even more highly anticipated. Since my birthday falls in early January (the 5th), I am full year older at the start of every New Year.
At the start of the every new year I reflect…

Most employers expect to make no major hiring changes next year, and those who do are taking it slow. However, companies are looking at ways to make business operations easier and more cost-effective.
CareerBuilder recently released the results of its latest survey, 2009 Job Forecast, conducted by Harris Interactive. The survey, completed from November 12 to December 1, asked 3,259 hiring managers and human resource professionals in private sector companies about next year’s…
