.jobs in breach of ICANN Registry Agreement

"The recently launched universe.jobs appears to be a job board that advertises job openings for multiple employers. It is our understanding that one registrant, who is a member of SHRM, registered forty thousand second-level domain names in the .JOBS TLD for use on this job board. It appears that Employ Media and SHRM, through the Direct Employers Association, intend to use the .JOBS TLD primarily to compete with other internet job boards. Such use is inconsistent with the purpose stated in the… Continue

The Cleared World Keeps Getting Tougher

Recruiting for highly-cleared professionals has always been a challenge. Even in situations where it is possible to sponsor a new clearance for a qualified candidate, the elongated time frame makes it difficult to ensure the candidate is still available if and when the clearance is fully adjudicated. Without a constant influx of newly cleared, highly skilled candidates the talent pool becomes essentially finite. In the best of times for candidates that led to steady job-hopping, with each…

Top 5 Social Networking Potholes

Social Media, recently and over the past few years, has gotten bigger and bigger. With websites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and many others, a whole new path of interaction for businesses and their recruiteres has been opened. It gives companies a chance to make new connections with potential passive contacts. Just like with anything, there are many great ways it can be utilized by recruiters, but there are also a number of potholes to look out for if you want to make sure to use social…

A Word on Split Placements and the Continuity of the Close

Just a quick thought here for us split recruiters.

Once the handoff has taken place – it is very important to let the recruiter who is working directly with the client also be the one who the candidate talks to.

Why is this?  I have found the phrase “too many cooks in the…

Are YOU an HR Thought Leader ??

A thought leader is someone who has innovative ideas and concepts – someone who, despite what is going on around them, defies convention and tries something new and succeeds. It is a term that was coined over fifteen years ago and has a lot of new dynamics in the current age. The advent of social media and the continuing advance of technology makes being innovative and sharing those innovative ideas. How do we utilize these things to share our ideas? What things are there for us to use? Here…

Methodical Mastery

While NHL All-Star Steven Stamkos’ performance last week contributed to the Tampa Bay Lightning’s rout of the Phoenix Coyotes, it’s his dedication to practice and repetition of proven strategies and techniques in thousands of practices and games that prepared him for that moment.

This same level of commitment is often missing on the corporate playing field when salespeople avoid the dreaded role-play and leaders neglect perpetually honing their skills. From the C-suite to the front… Continue

What Does a Google URL mean?

Search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo are used throughout the sourcing community on a daily basis to source talent.  We are so use to plugging our Boolean operators into Google, narrowing down searches and sifting through the results.

But, have you ever looked at the Google URL when conducting a search?  If not you should!

Every query we ask Google to run is represented with a URL that points to a results page, these URL’s are not static, but dynamic…

Jobboard futurology...

I have been thinking a lot about job boards recently, as both a customer and a jobseeker.   In these socially enabled times, it strikes me that the job board user experience should be something like this:

Jobs are displayed in easy on the eye tag clouds, instead of ordered lists we know are manipulated by the recruitment organisations who post them.  Jobs are highlighted to me by other job seekers and I can rank them by most viewed, highest rated or…

Hmmmm Recruiting Dilemma.... or not

Wow... it's been a while since I've blogged on here. It's not that I haven't been writing, it's just that I've had some other outlets, which make the something's Dan says a little quiet.. not my normal style. October 2010 it tells me... oops

So today it is... a quiet house, a busy mind and the need to write something has made this happen.

I've been Recruiting for a number of years now... maybe too many, but I heard something the other day which I hadn't heard…

Is it really that much of an imposition to extend a little professional courtesy?

A fellow HR–industry colleague, Andrew just checked in to run something by me about an interesting experience he recently had. He wanted to get my take on whether “we” collectively as peers in the same talent acquisition, talent development and talent management realm, have a shared obligation to support each other career-wise.

Prior to this particular conversation, my…

RSS and Recruitment

The Most Important thing about Recruiting

Lately most of my blogs have been editorials based off of other people’s posts though this week I felt like writing something based off my own experience and opinion.  I’ve been recruiting for about 12 years and have had my own Executive Search firm since 2007.  Prior to forming ExecuSource where I focus on Senior to Executive level positions I was in the staffing industry placing technologists at all levels in contract and permanent positions.

I worked for a few different…

Cultivating Your Career Change

I hear that you hate your job and are ready to leave! You got in touch with a recruiter who found you an amazing position and the phrase “peace out” is roaring in your head. Those bridges are ready to be burned, but hold up a minute. People are always afraid of change. They focus so much on just leaving the job that they forget that the way they do so is very important. Keeping connections with your old employer is crucial!

You want to know why? Well, think about it for a second. If…

Interesting article by Joan Lloyd

I read the article below on JobDig and felt so strongly about it I added it to my blog.  Unless your organization is statisfied with the status quo we all need to learn to work with these people.  They are a necessary evil when building an empire.  Do not discard, disassociate or discount yourself when in their presence.  Passion and a sense of business savvy should be embraced and admired and not a point of envy or resentment.  We all play an intricate part…

Engagement? It's Overrated. 5 Reasons Why We Are Overstating The Case For Candidate Engagement In Social Recruiting
