What I mean by that is we have a breed of staffing professional, that all they know is checking their ATS, checking the Monsters, Dices, CareerBuilder’s, etc., and that’s…

Do you ever catch yourself doing or saying something that your parents used to do or say that drove you crazy? My dad used to used whistle while he was driving...all the time...non-stop. It would drive me insane! Now, I often find myself driving down the road, listening to some tunes, whistling away - and then I sense it, my 16 year old daughter is glaring at me like…

Todd Schecter volunteered to be on the show via Twitter. I didn't have to go running after the guy begging him to be a guest. I didn't even know him before he just showed up and raised his hand.
And I thought he was a good guest and so did Jerry -- and in this case Jerry's opinion counts because he's in…

When we started out with Mystery Applicant, we set the goal that every job applicant would be given the opportunity to give their feedback on the process. Every single one. Every minute of the day.
This is a key part of our offering as we wanted to hear from the rejected candidates who would form the huge majority of our…

According to a McKinsey & Company study, solar power is "a far more cost-competitive power source today than it was in the mid-2000s, when installations and manufacturing were taking off, subsidies were generous, and investors were piling…

Candidate emails, social media posts, the company blog and job listings are just a few of the points in your recruiting initiatives that should always, always, always include a call-to-action of some sort. Candidates, customers and clients need to know the next steps, what is expected of them and what they can expect from you.
Lucky for us, Dan Zarrella at HubSpot (…

LinkedIn announced last week that they’d reached a milestone of 300 million users, which is pretty impressive, considering that means that their online population pretty much parallels that of the United States.
This comes about 5 quarters after reaching 200 million users in January 2013,…

1 Possibility PRO- Taking cue from @AlliPolin, here’s what she said; Answers are over-rated. If you're so sure you're right, you stop looking for new possibilities. Leaders always hunt down and epitomize possibilities. They are known for this demeanor. You got to kept optimism and positivism alive with…

Programmers are on GitHub, Designers are on Dribbble, and everyone is on LinkedIn. Yet we brave sourcers are without a home of our own.
Wouldn't it be swell if there were a place where recruiters could not only collaborate and compare notes, but also be evaluated on their skillset?
GitHub is brilliant in it's simplicity. Despite the deep, advanced nature of…

Here’s the question of the day – what if we treated hiring like a zero-tolerance industry?
A zero-tolerance industry is an industry where mistakes are not tolerated. Nuclear engineers work in a zero-tolerance industry. Air traffic controllers work in a zero-tolerance industry. Police officers work in a zero-tolerance industry.
Those jobs are zero-tolerance industries because they are literally matters of life and death. Hiring isn’t.…

What does the second law of thermodynamics have to do with hiring?
A lot, really.
For those of you who have not been brushing up on your physics lately, one of the takeaways of the second law of thermodynamics is that no system can be totally efficient. So, for example, all the energy…

Let’s define this already! “Cultural Fit” has become such a buzzword in recruiting and HR, but is anyone 100% sure what that means for their own organization? Knowing what a cultural fit looks like in the light of the unique values of your organization is vital, but it is also important to be aware of what a cultural fit isn’t.
A popular definition of…

ContinueCompanies all over the world are searching for potential employees to become a part of their teams. The hiring process can be long and arduous, sometimes taking months before the perfect candidate is found. The longer the hiring process, the more it costs. This can cause the company to go over budget or even result in the company settling on an inferior candidate. Using technology in the hiring process is a great way to speed things up, allowing companies to find the right employee at the…

Since buyers like to buy and don’t like to be on the receiving end of a sales pitch, this may indicate the need for a 12-step program, but not for customers. Rather, it would be for all salespeople who, intentionally or not, behave in ways that prompt buyers to recoil as though they were dealing with an addict on a binge.
If there were such a program, let’s call it Sales Anonymous, I suspect the 12 steps would read something like…
