Well here it is, my first blog post. That is not entirely true. I have blogged before on various different subjects from running to firearms. I even started a few blogs just to get free stuff. Who can blame me?
I am gearing this blog towards, you guessed it, recruiting. I am going to be talking about the military side of recruiting. The kind where you get forced into doing it. So, you will see some good things, some random things, and probably a bunch of ranting about stupid things.…

Employee Engagement, Corporate Culture, and Employer Brand
It may seem like a lot of topics to try and cover all at once, but the simple fact is that you can’t have one without the other. You can’t talk about corporate culture without addressing employee engagement, and you certainly can’t have a good (and realistic) employer brand without a defined, living…

Here is our weekly feature in which we share the top articles we enjoyed from the past week about recruitment marketing, social recruiting and anything else in the recruiting space. In this article, we’ll be talking about personal branding, building rapport, employer branding, social media and the ATS.
A reminder that the Candidate Experience Awards have started accepting applications for this year’s awards. To get further…

When I was a girl one of my biggest goals was to be able to do the splits like all of my little gymnast friends. Let's just say that we are NOT all created equal. I never did pull off the physical act of doing the splits. I did, however, master recruiting splits. Those splits really worked for me.
For those who are not familiar with the term "splits" as it…

For the independent recruiter, the demands on your time are often overwhelming from day 1. There are so many moving parts and things to do that there are never enough hours in the day. Even for the seasoned business owner, it’s difficult to relinquish control of any part of their business. Still, every successful internet marketer has come to…

Morning all, more of a rant than a blog. This morning I am rushing to jump on the tube, I am expecting a potential offer from a top client. My phone started ringing, it was a withheld number. I rush back up the steps at Stepney Green tube station out of breath pressed the green but and answer “JGB Partners” the voice on the other end “Hi Jim, how are you today? Would you be interested in outsourced RPO services?…

Twitterland is a real place. Well, that is what I keep telling myself. There are people from all over the world there. It is like having them next door to you. No time zones, and instant communication. All you need to go there is a computer or a smart phone. Before you go to Twitterland though, understand it is hard to get out of this place. You can get lost…

There are various ways to deal with issues with job fulfillment. Some of them, like gamification, definitely take a contemporary strategy. But there is also a strategy that is centuries old which scientists are finding to have a positive effect in the workplace: mindfulness.
According to a latest content in Avoidance, mindfulness has its origins in historical Buddhist custom. Stating a research in the…

I've made it past the 30 day mark on my corporate recruiting job (yay!), and I have been busy with reqs and also learning our new ATS, helping to develop our internship program, and HR stuff. Our locations are global in my company, for one of our local labs, there are 2 employees that have their resume posted on a major career board. I really want to call them and ask them why are they leaving? Should I? I want to talk to my manager about it, because both employees are in the same…

Building a talent pipeline sounds like this really difficult, intense task and for that reason, many who are first in HR might think of it as an "advanced" activity. Nothing could be further from the truth. The very things that make talent pipelines successful are things that you can put in place from your very first day (and in fact, are often more effective that way!)

Once upon a time, a headhunter was a person who cut off and preserved someone’s head after killing them. It’s no wonder that the term headhunter, as applied to the modern day recruiter, has such a bad reputation. From the outset, the industry has been challenged in overcoming this negative stereotype. Each time someone has a negative…

Over the past week I have been going through some family issues which began with a medical emergency last Friday. Everyone we talked to from our family practitioner to the ER medical team believed that the signs pointed towards one thing. When the surgeons went in to operate on Saturday morning, they found an entirely different problem was manifested in the same environment. Upon reflection we do the same steps in the HR world we work in.
Every single day we are confronted with…

Earlier this week, a salesperson told me about a difficult conversation she was about to have with a client. In asking for my advice, she said there was a chance this customer will ask for a price reduction and that she’d have to do a “dog and pony show” to convince them to keep working with her at the current rate.
I told her she needed to “kill the dog and corral the pony.” As you may suspect, there was a long pause on the other end of the phone after such a startling…

When you hear about contract-to-direct arrangements, you usually hear about how client companies use them to test drive candidates. These arrangements give companies the chance to see a potential new hire "in action" rather than just depending on the typical interview and hiring process to determine whether they are the right fit. They can evaluate a candidate's skills and work ethic before they make a direct hire commitment.
But a recent …

Manufacturing, Engineering and Industrial Sales; Increased Hiring! - 2013 Outlook
Bill Marek
Vantage Point Recruiters, LLC.
In our world of recruiting we have noticed, this year, an increase in the demand for Sales Engineers, or Field Applications Engineers. Not surprising, after a general slowdown, for six years, manufacturing and production companies are eager to get back to full production, and then add to that.
One step…

This blog post was inspired by conversations with William Tincup. Check him out on Twitter at @williamtincup and his internet radio show at DriveThruHR.
Here’s a question: when’s the last time you really sat down with your team and discussed the true value proposition that you provide candidates and how to most effectively message this to candidates. If…
