Monster announced yesterday that it is laying off 15% of its workforce,
or roughly 800 people. The announcement followed the release of their
quarterly financials - Q2 earnings dropped 28% even though revenue was
up 20%. Looks like costs have gotten somewhat out of control. And no
wonder, considering the fact that Monster’s ability to keep visitors
coming to its site has become increasingly difficult and increasingly
costly. Perhaps they’ve gone too far in the…

so jeremy tagged me for this, the whole eight things you don't know bit, seems interesting since a lot of folks here may not know these assorted items...oh, but do pardon my salty language...but since all of you know how vulgar i am i suppose none of this will come as a surprise...
...and btw, not sure which eight to tag, so instead of gonna say same other 7 as jeremy's post (good list!) and perhaps add shally to that roster (was he on it?)
1) as a young child i…

Today on Yahoo's homepage there is a link to an article by the Brazen Careerist, Penelope Trunk. For the most part, I can see her point of view on most subjects, however this article is just plain bizzaro world. I am a Gen X'er. I am 30 years old. I am the new regime. Her tips on the "new workplace etiquette" are going to get people fired.
For example, she recommends:…

Oh Dear...I'm usually not one to follow up on these things, but my internet research colleague
Amybeth Hale deemed me a good candidate for this, so here goes:
THE RULES:
1. Post these rules before you give you the facts.
2. List 8 random facts about yourself.
3. At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names (linking to them)
4. Leave them a comment…

Never thought I'd see the day when I was being asked for thoughts and comments on video and resumes and companies in the context of a Sean Diddy article on Reuters.
It has become a very small world indeed. And to think my daughter didn't think I knew rap. Yo!

Quote for the Day: Tuesday, July 31st, 2007
"Encourage people to ignore superiors and peers. Hire defiant outsiders. Rather than teaching newcomers about company history or procedure, have the newcomers teach the old-timers how to think and act. Encourage people to drive you crazy by doing what they think is right rather than what they are told. "

Thanks to
Riveting Rosie for calling out one of the worst web gaffs I’ve seen in a long time. First, the new logo for
JobFinderUSA is, as Rosie rightly points out, a total rip-off of
LinkedIn,
which by itself is an egregious flaw for any company. Secondly, I’m not
sure…

Quote for the Day: Monday, July 30th, 2007
"If you sit down with the hiring manager, ask them about their business, take a look at the resumes of employees who were previously successful in the hiring manager’s organization, and then use specialized services to deliver passive candidates that can’t be found through posting on a job board, then you are selling value. You can charge a little more and be a little less efficient, because you offer something better… Continue

According to the LA Times, companies in Second Life are working too hard and paying too much to reach too few visitors, compared to other traditional and more cost effective advertising mediums. End result, many companies are closing their doors in Second Life. The question is, will they return another day…

I have some exciting personal news to share today. Last week I accepted an offer from Dave Manaster to come join ERE and help build the Fordyce Letter.
This is an incredible opportunity for me. I really like the recruiting business and I really like it from a third party recruiter’s perspective. I started subscribing to the Fordyce Letter almost 10…

It's easy to conform to the worlds many winding roads.
Wouldn't you rather be the path that has many intersections to decide what is good for you?
Don't let yourself become so off track that you lose yourself, is it worth it?
I think not, when planning is not an issue and goals aren't either then you're in trouble!
Remember to follow your path and make a left or a right from time to time, but never take that steep incline, becaue you'll be trying to get back on…

In today’s market place where you may work remotely on a virtual team and your boss may be hundreds if not thousands of miles away people are struggling with just how to resign professionally. OK some aren’t, but they’re the ones who will type “I QUIT” on a piece of paper with a 72 font size and sign their name. So we won’t listen to them since we’re trying to not burn any bridges and we would prefer to have people say good things about us after we’re long gone.
The…
