The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act), which provides funding to healthcare providers for the adoption and “meaningful use” of EHRs, has generated a huge demand for health IT professionals. This demand has created a new niche recruiters who have the ability to place profesisonals with the unique skills set needed to fill these positions.
One recruiter who is focusing his efforts on this niche is …

Instead of opening your headhunting calls with “Are you looking for a new opportunity?” You might consider opening with one of Harley Marketing’s, 10 Valid Business Reason for interrupting someone's day:
1. Solve a problem
The best interruptions rarely have to do with the services you sell. Instead, share information…

As a candidate, how would you feel if you knew the recruiter you were speaking with on the phone was sitting at his desk, at his home, in his boxers, and maybe hadn't showered in a few days?
As a hiring manager, would it bother you if you were entrusting your search to the same guy mentioned above? Should it matter as long as he is getting the job done and going it well?
The truth is, you really have no idea if you are in that situation or not. It is funny - and creepy - to…

Every good recruiter knows that social media is becoming more and more important when it comes to finding a great candidate. Just days ago Mashable reported that a social media monitoring service Reppler found that 90% of recruiters and hiring managers have visited a potential candidate’s profile as part of the screening process, and 69%…

Every relationship, whether it is personal or professional, is maintained by a certain set of behaviors and attitudes. Think about it. Whether you are dating, conducting an interview, or making new friends, you expect the other person to act “properly” whatever that may mean to you. If your blind date is sketchy, spends the evening ignoring you for his or her phone, or stands you up, would you really try to see this person again? Not likely. So why do you, as recruiters, pursue relationships…

It is almost September. Schools will be starting everywhere all over the country. People of all ages will have new experiences, and their lives will change forever. Some kids are going to college, and some are going to Kindergarten. No matter the age, something different will happen to them this year that didn’t happen to them last year. Their classes,…

Step One: Analyze the job description: What are the missing specifics?
Review the JD to identify additional information and/or clarifications that you need from the hiring manager. Out of this discussion will come the elements to include in your posting. It will be very different and much more effective than the original JD.
These examples are from the Requirements section of a recent job description from a company where I am coaching the recruiting team on these…

A thought provoking article by LSE Professor Eleanor O'Higgins in the latest edition of Accountancy Ireland caught my eye. (This is a link to the e-version of AI, so it may take some time to load). For anyone that's interested, here is my take.
I don't disagree with Professor O'Higgins' answer. I disagree with her question.
In effect she is asking "is executive pay…

I wanted to try an experiment to see just how fast Google can index a new Word press blog. I choose the phrase 'Sexy SEO for Recruiters' as Google was not returning any direct results for this phrase and so I could see immediately if my new page was being indexed. I created a new post on my blog page and within a few seconds Google had found the post.
This has big implications for recruiters posting vacancies onto web sites as generally you will want Google to index your own web site…

Rumor, and Innuendo can destroy a career!!
Yup, it is true, it does not matter how good the facts say you are, how good the stats say you are, all that matters is what the "in crowd" "the click" think. It can even be and out and out lie, but if that group of people who are on the "in" think it is true, or propagate it, you are done. Even if you are the top performer in the company.
It is scary to think that in…

While the quick answer to this question probably is a “better job” (or just a job in general), what I’m really going for here is figuring out what really drives your candidate to want a position. Sure this can be a high salary but there is also a whole other list of factors that can ultimately affect a candidate’s decision to apply from benefits to work/life balance.
While some of these factors will be consistent across disciplines, this hierarchy of wants will most likely change…

In my job search, six years ago, I thought I knew what recruiters were for: to get me a job.
I thought it was your job to take my resume and find that perfect fit for me. I found 30 local recruiters and shared my resume with them, sure they would be wowed, impressed, and fall all over themselves to place me so they could get a fat commission.
Sound familiar? I know job seekers today still think your role is to get them a job, with no-to-little effort on their…

Are these really the dog days of summer? Maybe not, judging from the number of new job sites I’m seeing. Granted, some of these have been around in alpha or beta for a while, some have been flying under the radar, and some are simply new to me – but there seems to be no letup in the volume of start-ups in the online recruiting sector.
This is great, in my opinion. Startups force established players to rethink how they do business. They…

We have seen reports of fake accounts on Facebook (about 15-20%), I am sure there are similar fake accounts at other social media websites.

Source: http://blog.gooodjob.com/2012/06/lets-gamify-referral-programs-part-1/
Employee referral programs suffer from perpetually low participation rates, an average of up to only 20%. The majority of employees are not actively involved due to unawareness or indifference. Introducing gamification into the program can change this: you’ll drive more excitement and engagement, resulting…

Graham Whelan is the best recruiter I’ve ever met.
And he has been that way since before most of you reading this article got to high school.
Last week I went to lunch with Graham, and 2 other long-standing recruiting colleagues, all now competitors, all significant achievers in our industry.
After the usual banter, and a sombre reflection on the fact that between us we had 120 years…
