The Big, Bad and ugly: Who stole my candidate, and Hey I had her first...How to avoid candidate competition and Share like the big kids

Few people talk about it out loud, but it happens, we know it, Agencies know it, and here is a tip on how to avoid it.

Seems simple enough. You spend hours trying to get people interested, they apply and then 4 other corporate recruiters tag them. By the Way these recruiters are all working on your team.

How about this one. You speak with a candidate, get her jazzed about a leader position in a niche area of development, and bam....They have an interview tomorrow with… Continue

Save Recruitment Dollars with increasing your Candidate's Experiences

I have to make a confession. I often get so busy with my reqs, my candidates, and my interviews, that things I learned early on in recruitment and HR have slipped. Last week I took a breath and tried to put a framework together so that I could mentor others around my success in candidate experience and relationship building. I knew I was strong in a couple of areas, but I had never connected my enjoyment of building relationships and creating an experience for all my stakeholder, with the Cost… Continue

Layoffs at Siemens and Abbott Labs (again) ...

News from the Wall Street Journal Health Blog: Abbott Laboratories recently announced plans to close a manufacturing plant in California and cut 1000 jobs. Many major companies (Merck, Wyeth, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, and Amgen) have also announced job cuts in recent months. Siemens, in fact, announced in June plans to lay off 17,000 workers worldwide, which could be a sign of the times, according to Cliff Mintz at BioJob Blog.… Continue

Your Resume Should Read as a Perfect Match for Your Next Job

So, you are trying to write your own resume, and you are focusing on trying to highlight all of the things that you've done in the past? STOP!

Your resume isn't ABOUT your past - it's about your future! Of course, you need to rely on what you have done to convince your next employer of what you can do for him or her, but remember: Your resume needs to read as the perfect match for your next job. You don't want to look like the candidate who is qualified to do the job you already… Continue

Quick Tip on Self-image

In your own mind, how do you see yourself and what it is you are doing? Do you view yourself as a true professional with an important message (offer, idea, etc.) that your prospective audience will want to know about?

It is highly likely that how you see yourself in your own mind, your self-image, will be communicated in one form or another to those you encounter.

Send a congruent message by seeing it and believing it in your own mind first!

ATTENTION ALL RECRUITERS WHO STAFF EVENTS

While organizing 4 job fairs in different states this month, I've been keenly aware of our need to differentiate our events from the rest. When it comes right down to it, all that really matters is that local job seekers find good opportunities, and the local employers who exhibit connect with high quality local candidates. Sounds simple, hunh?

Actually, it really is. When we hosted events earlier this year and last fall, we were able to get a much higher quality of job seeker than… Continue

Roller Derby... Thanks to Slouch for his Blog!!

I would like to give a HUGE thanks to Slouch for mentioning in his Blog, that "us" Roller Derby Chicks (yes, I am one!) know how to reach our target market. Assassination City Roller Derby is a team effort, in all areas with LOTS of communication as well as a group of ladies that will listen to each idea no matter what background or marketing/ recruiting experience someone has. Women are “doers”… when my GM puts the pressure on me to increase my tickets sales, spread the word, go after new… Continue

Identifying Your Why- Your Inner Motivation

Clearly understanding why you wish to create a cutting edge consulting recruiting business is the first block of your foundation. Becoming clear on your goals is more challenging than most people acknowledge. There are two foundational motivators which drive human behavior. Moving towards pleasure and moving away from pain. Many of us at times, have both motivators working within us, with one being dominant. The key to unlocking human potential is to effectively recognize which drives your… Continue

10 months of unemployment?

I'm interested in hearing how others "dig" into reasons why certain people are unemployed for months at a time. I had a conversation the other day with a candidate whose resume had a last work date of November 2007. I asked why she hadn't been working since then and she said "I have been searching for the right position". That's not an acceptable answer to me, since there are plenty of jobs out there - in or out of your field - if you're hungry. So I asked how she got her bills paid. Ok,… Continue
