Because of the generosity of Joe Navarro, a man who spent 25 years as a counterintelligence special agent, I've had the opportunity to share a lot of research and guidance about nonverbal and verbal communication with you over the last few weeks. To…

The one word that seems to be synonymous with our industry is ‘competition’. We are forever telling each other how ‘competitive’ it is and how many ‘competitors’ we have.
And it’s all true.
But the areas most recruiters compete on are rarely the ones that truly differentiate us. Going forward, the recruitment industry is going to compete in totally new ways, and that’s going to leave many ill-prepared recruiters far, far…

Others went to great lengths to remain under the radar for fear of being the next on the booting block, if Bob the company’s most committed employee got the pink slip everyone knows no one is safe!
One of the strangest but arguably potentially coolest side-effects of being the receiver…

A key hiring goal for most companies is to feel safe and secure that they’ve made a good choice – they’ve selected someone who will fit in, will perform well, and have a positive impact. In order to satisfy the need to feel “safe” about a hire, some employers load up a laundry list of skills and experiences and label them “must have” or “required”. In some cases, these are legitimate, such as an in-the-trenches, hands-on…

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of going to Valco Mall with my sweet daughter in Cupertino, CA. The wonder in her eyes, as she explored a new place, complete with Christmas decorations, and running from store to store, with a broad smile, energy, and enjoyment made me remember what it was like to be a child, and have the spirit of Christmas, of Thanksgiving every day - and while as an adult I have this now, it is amazing how a child can always be happy, and how it doesn't take much to find the…

Last week I blogged about how you need to move the focus away from dollars and percentages when clients negotiate fees, and on to your value and your differentiators.
One of the comments on my blog from Matthew Lancey raised the point that sometimes clients keep pushing, and they say something like “but your competitors charge…
