Definition of Insanity - Reading the ERE daily? - by David Szary - Recruiter Academy

Albert Einstein defined insanity as “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting your results to change!”

I often use this quote during my training/speaking engagements to reinforce the fact that creating good habits and/or breaking bad habits is a very difficult thing to do.

In my last blog post, I touched on “attitude” and how it will either positively or negatively affect you, your day, and ultimately . . . your passion for recruiting!

My advice… Continue

Balance Isn't Just A Protein Bar...

RecruiterGuy talks about Balance This week I'm back in the gym like I should be every week (shame on me) and I'm reminded of my slightly peculiar talent (yes, I said it - RecruiterGuy has some peculiarity to him) to correlate my off-work experiences or journeys to goals and missions in my professional life. While punishing my abs and upper body last night I drew a correlation between the creation of (or at my age the maintenance of) my muscles and the 'm4d & cr4zy' skills I try to keep flexed and always honed…

Time is precious

In recruiting, time is of the utmost importance. It is what I tell my clients and my candidates that I won’t waste, and that I’ll respect their time throughout the process as we move to making a placement. However, it seems that both candidates and client companies forget this when it’s time for a telephone screen. Recently I’ve had a rash of no calls from clients and missed calls by candidate requiring us to reschedule it for some later date and not only causing a delay in the process, but… Continue

Join Talent Talk Cafe today at 3pm ET/12pm PT for a conversation on Generations.

Disruptive Talent Acquisition Strategies

The past nearly 2 years I have been telling the world, there is more than spending money in Online Recruitment. You can also save your money.

The "how to" is easy, by not doing anything online.

But for those who would like to be successful in their Online presence, be successful in Online Recruitment, they will have to know what is happening out there. In my… Continue

Heraclitus, Change Management, and Innovation

Article Title: Heraclitus, Change Management, and Innovation

Author Byline: Philip Aust

Author Website:

If you are up on your Greek history, you know who Heraclitus is. If not, here is the Cliffs Notes version. Heraclitus was a Pre-Socratic philosopher who lived circa 530 to 480 B.C. Whereas history credits him with penning over 100 proverbs, he is best known for one basic idea: Heraclitus believed the universe is in a… Continue

Job Search Tip: Too Much Information on your Social Networks

I get a lot of great comments from my readers, which I love. One of these was a response to MySpace Killed the Candidate…critical job interview tip, in which I told the cautionary tale of one of my candidates leaving too much information on her MySpace page and losing a job opportunity: avoid such issues by ”setting your social networks to private.” I agree that it is best to set your social network sites to private, and be careful who you accept as a friend.

Still, there are things… Continue

Transitions... or How to Avoid the Medusa Complex

Our climate is pretty moderate here in the Pacific Northwest. We have a gorgeous fall season with chilly temps, morning frost, and rain. We occasionally get snow in the winter – along with more rain and chilly temps. Then spring comes along and we have more temperate days with lots of rain, occasional thunderstorms, and beautiful spring flowers. The one constant throughout the year is rain… or as we call it – liquid sunshine. It’s good for the complexion.

The best part about our… Continue

You Don't Recruit Chuck Norris, Chuck Norris Recruits You

Candidate Control is about as basic as you get with recruiting; right behind picking up the phone and dialing. But time and time again I see it as a best practice that is totally ignored. If you are going to recruit the top talent, you better be respected by that group and LISTEN to them.

Getting Roundkicked into Yesterday

This includes knowing what your candidate knows. I work on the corporate side, so if I tell you as an agency recruiter that I want to speak with a… Continue

What's The Best Sourcing Application/Platform In The Industry?

Can anyone help me here? I am aware of Sourcepoint, but don't know the rest - any thoughts? Is there functionality in today's Sourcing apps that you'd like to see? Are there methods that would make your life easier, meaning ranging from search string generation to campaign management? I know Salesforce.com can be configured . . . but unless you're purchasing a comprehensive solution (add-on), customizing SF can be rough.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Dos Candidates, Por Favor

One time, my husband and I went to Puerto Rico and, since my foreign language classes consisted of Latin and French (read: useless), I was a bit worried about the prospect of Spanish. He assured me that he was On. It. His extensive training in high school and college Spanish would fare us well.Flash forward to our vacation…going through the drive through line at Burger King (again).

The Marriage is Over. He dumped me on Twitter.

When you stop to think about it, perception is an extremely powerful branding tool. It can make or break you. It never ceases to amaze me how well social media enables us to brand ourselves, our company and/or our service.

But there are some downsides to branding and perception via social media.

Here’s my story:

A few weeks ago, I received a note from Twitter that @Tweet05 (not his real name to protect his identify) was following me.

I always check… Continue
