From Dave Lefkow - The Recruiting Bacon King:
"(at this point all I can say is
Craig's List rocks for small businesses, my cost per hire so far is less than $25 and my quality of hire is stupendous)"

Quote for the Day: Thursday, August 23rd, 2007
"Many attempts at HR effectiveness start without defining value. For example, some companies invest in e-HR services such as portals and online employee services and believe that they have transformed HR, but they have not. While e-HR may be a part of an overall transformation, it is merely a way to deliver HR administrative services. HR transformation must change the way to think about HR's role in delivering value… Continue

This week Jim Stroud has a guest columnist that discusses EGrabber and their resume finder software. I was interested in hearing if anyone has used this software and if it has helped in internet research and finding candidates? I looks promising to me, but many have before and disappointed.

"Few professionals would argue with the need for a shared vision. It's
pretty much accepted as good management practice nowadays - the way we
try to get people more engaged. But I'd argue that shared visions are
not all they're cracked up to be. If you think about it, the more
diverse a team of people are, the less chance there is of arriving at a
common vision. Diversity and a… Continue

Quote for the Day: Tuesday, August 21st, 2007
"The religious person may blame it on. original sin. The historian may cite the force of trends such as population growth and industrialization. The sociologist offers reasons rooted in the peculiarities of human associations. Reformers blame it all on "the system", and propose new systems that would, they assert, guarantee a brave new world of justice, peace, and abundance. Everyone, it seems, has his own idea of what… Continue

Two prospective employee resumes come across a hiring manager’s desk. Both candidates have the same skills and qualifications as well as have degrees from prestigious colleges. One candidate however, may have an unfair advantage, a traditionally non-ethnic sounding name.
According to an article by David Wessel of the Wall Street Journal, "A white sounding name on an…

Just yesterday, I was having lunch with an acquaintance of mine discussing various recruitment strategies by incorporating the voice of the customer or voice of the employee in this case. No doubt company blogs came up. Why? Because they build relationships and engage ongoing, multi-faceted conversations. And while some companies are leery of
allowing their employees to speak freely about their work…

How do you construct your agreements with retained firms to account for referrals from your company that get placed at your company? What are best practices for this?…

"Why is it that the same managers who use “people don’t work for money” to justify underpaying workers are convinced that their own bonus and long-term incentive plans are great and highly motivating?"

As the originator of bioblogs, a new art form for traditional resumes, I am interested in what recruiters think about them and particularly, if they don't care for them, what they suggest as an alternative to the look-alike resumes that circulate these days.
For those who haven't yet seen a bioblog, here's where to see them:
1stbioblogger.wordpress.com
bioblogger.typepad.com
Color and b/w samples are shown on these blogs, and recruiters who are used to working with the…

Finding sales talent can be as challenging as finding new clients. You have to consider your search for good salespeople to be no different than any other marketing or sales effort. You have to find a large list of prospects, and attract one or more of them to join your firm. Of course, this state of affairs is ironic: you need to be a good salesperson in order to attract someone to help you with… Continue
