How To Hire Great Recruiters

Over on my blog, www.bearingfruitconsulting.com, I have been presenting a series of posts on How To Hire Great Recruiters. Check it out if you are interested!

Can you help me with this definition please!

I believe that this word is the most abused word in the world of recruitment - it is the word, urgent.

The strict definition of this adjective is 'Requiring immediate attention'. Isn't it very strange that this appears lost on both clients and candidates alike!!! (Can you tell this really annoys me?)

So, I would really like to hear from you with any 'recruitment orientated' versions of the word urgent please!

Stop Waiting For Your Life To Begin

Here’s an excellent excerpt I found from Dan Miller who is President of The Business Source and Founder/Author of 48 Days To The Work You Love:

This morning I received a life coaching request from a 28-yr-old, working in the area of professional specialty that match his academic degrees.

In response to the question: “Why are you looking for a change?” he wrote: I am very unhappy with what I do. I am usually a passionate person and like for what I do to have meaning and to… Continue

The Agency Worker’s Bill

The Agency Worker’s Bill is being voted on this Friday (22nd Feb 2008) in Parliament and it seems to be raising a bit of a stir in the recruitment world (both online and off-line). I don’t claim to be an expert in employment law or employee rights (technology is my speciality), but it seems fairly obvious there is an issue up for debate here. The trade unions seem to be pushing hard for the bill…

Social Network Recruiters: Coming to an Office Near You?

Are we on the verge of seeing a new job in HR -- for Social Network Recruiters? Some think so, but I see more opportunities to blend jobs of social media / community / social network marketing with HR to really have success in a Web 2.0 world.

Is There a Pedophile In Your Cubicle?

Author’s note: Names and places have been changed to protect the guilty and the innocent.

Things were humming along just fine over at Company Z. Until, that is, after the company picnic.

Over the weekend, the company picnic at Tilden Park in Berkeley near Wildcat Canyon was a great success, well planned, well-attended, with all kinds of fun and games for adults and kids alike. There were pick-up softball games, touch football, a chance to… Continue

This is a first---candidate pulls out of process because the work space is 'grim'.

This is a first for me and I don't think there's much I can do to overcome this candidate's objection.

I've been working on a needle in a haystack search for one of my favorite clients. They are looking for a project manager with very specific web experience and I finally found someone that seemed to be a strong fit, both experience and personality wise. Everyone I've ever sent to this company has wanted to work here....until now. This candidate gave me very detailed feedback, loved… Continue

Of course sometimes it works just that way…other times…not so much. The question that needs to be asked is why did it fail?

As we know sometimes the company picks the wrong recruiter (your competition), they utilize the wrong search…

Cost of Cupid

Today is the day when us negligent guys slip the hostess a $20 bill to find us a table at dinner because we didn’t male a reservation.

It’s the day when a dozen red roses suddenly cost 3 times as much as they did the day before!

That’s right my friends…Today is valentine’s Day!

According to the National Retail Federation, the average person will spend $122.98 on V-Day…
