What YOU say when your client says “send me the resume”

The fact is you make a placement only if your candidate gets an interview.

So your job as a recruiter is so much more than sourcing the talent and making the match. As important as they are, it’s all a waste of time if you don’t get your candidate sitting opposite your client.

And so you find yourself enthusiastically…

5 Things That Will Change Recruiting

When people talk about HR trends they tend to look at what we do today and discuss ways it can be done better in the future. Applications and tools for recruiting, training, on-boarding, etc. are being developed at dizzying rates. Problem is – these new HR innovations are going to have a short half life.

Another way to look at HR trends is to look at the way business is changing.

The changes in technology, employee motivation, globalism, and resource mobility, just to name a…

Got time to type? You've got time to talk.

How many times have you phoned a client only to be told they’re busy? You then send a quick email, and they reply immediately? Not that busy ay? And how many times have you sent an email ‘without even trying’ to speak to your contact, or sent an email when really you could have spoke to your contact instead?

If you have the time to type, you have the time to talk. Pick up the phone.

OK, I appreciate we are living in a world that is becoming forevermore…

Building Unconditional Customer Loyalty

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being with my wife as she watched her beloved alma mater, Ohio State, beat Michigan in their yearly football matchup. While it’s been several decades since Holly sat in the stands cheering on her team as a student, you would’ve thought it was just yesterday as she hooted, hollered, and even dropped a few choice expletives. She is consistently passionate and loyal for everything Ohio State, regardless of whether they win or lose. Collegiate teams, and…

Are PSL's potentially damaging to business?

Are PSL's potentially damaging to business? Do they close the door on good talent? I understand the reasons why companies run PSL’s. For any business that runs a PSL, have you ever stopped and considered the consequences of fishing with just two or three lines?

I’ve been in the recruitment world for 15 years, and it’s fair to say that over 70% of the clients I deal with have a PSL, none of which has my name on the list. I also the clients that run strict PSL’s which I am…

Facebook Launches ‘Lame’ Job App

Posted by Vanessa Bostwick

You may want to rethink hitting that ‘sell’ button next to your LinkedIn shares. It appearsFacebook’s newest job search app has landed with an unceremonious thud in the recruiting space.

Last week the app launched with much fanfare, probably because Facebook has done little to nothing when it comes to creating job apps.…

7 reasons successful organizations continually recruit

How do some organizations continually separate themselves from the pack?  Why do some teams always win, while others continue to lose?  Why do some companies struggle with day- to- day operations, while others make it look so easy?  The simple answer is the people.  Without the right people in place, nothing can be accomplished.…

What experience are your candidates getting?

Nine years recruitment experience has made me sensitive to the struggles of a Jobseeker. All too often I hear about the very lengthy and daunting recruitment processes that follow.

Unfortunately for Jobseekers, clicking the ‘apply’ button for that perfect job can mean being redirected to a site and an application process of 6+ pages to complete; an arguably ‘necessary’ requirement for gaining candidate information.

But are the words ‘lengthy’ and ‘daunting’ really the words an…

Is it time for Job-seekers to get more creative

With Platforms like LinkedIn and You tube are the days of the traditional CV numbered?

I for one love seeing candidates getting creative when seeking a role. I don’t think this will completely replace the traditional CV but now that many adverts have the apply with LinkedIn button, is it about time the CV evolved into 2012?

With unemployment still at a high in many sectors how can candidates…

Straight-Line Fulfillment

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line, yet, many people take a very roundabout way in getting things done, wasting time and resources in the process. My 2 cents on Linked In and its impact on recruitment industry

Before I start I should establish that this post is purely based on my personal experience and I am not trying to pass it as factual information. I am solely sharing my experience and will hopefully be able to hear from others who have the same or perhaps a different opinion.

I have spent the good part of the past 6 years in building a decent network on Linked In. A network that has a large number of executives and decision makers in it but is also wide enough to span across…

Speed Up the Hiring Process to Keep Great Candidates

You think you've found the perfect candidate for your client's tough job order.  He passed the phone interview and the following three in-person interviews with flying colors.  He aced all of the skills and assessment tests. He has all of the qualifications and seems to be a perfect cultural fit. But while your client deliberates over whether this is really the BEST they can do, your candidate takes another job.

A slow hiring process wears candidates down and…

5 Habits of Successful Recruiting Organizations

This will be a short article and by no means is meant to be comprehensive.  However, as I’ve been talking with recruiting organizations, listening to their stories at conferences, and hearing tidbits through the grapevine online and through prospect meetings, there are a number of key insights I hear time and time again that I think can be very helpful.
