Jerry, I read your blog on Splits and really like your comments. The only thing I would ask you is what do you do when there is a fall off. Who is responsible for replacing the candidate during the guarantee period?
I would be very interested in doing splits with you. I am an independant recruiter in Mississauga, Ontario. Let me know if we could discuss working together.
Sincerely,
Nancy Samuels,…

I am an independent recruiter in Mississauga, Ontario Canada. I have worked with other recruiters in the past and have enjoyed the results of many splits both through finding candidates for their clients and receiving candidates for my clients. It isn't something I would jump into without trusting and knowing the other recruiter but as the saying goes "a half a loaf of bread is better than none". I think all independent recruiters need to find other recruiters to work with. It can get lonely…

I just read Jerry's post on SPLIT placements and I thought I comment through a blog post. The business model of split placements seems to be challenged by many members of the recruiting community. Some recruiters love split placements while others shy away from it and avoid it like the plague. For me, a lot of my business is through split placements and I love the concept. Don't get me wrong - I encourage recruiters to do split placements. I believe it provides a good…

Do you accept the fact that your client can reject candidates you present on your shortlist?
Yes? Then you lack ‘Recruiter Equity’.
View video on YouTube
Recruiter equity is the trust, the buy-in, the belief that your clients have in your ability and your judgment. It is the combination of your experience and your knowledge, and it gives you the power to…

A job seeker recently sent me an email asking my advice on a situation that I’m sure many folks have dealt with. She heard through the grapevine that a local company was looking to hire but did not have a direct contact. She thought she would differentiate herself and decided to not only send in her resume through the website but to also leave a message with HR to let them know that:
1. They should be on the lookout for her resume because she is qualified for the position she…

I received a call from a Recruiter today asking for information about a particular agency they are scheduled to interview with later this week. To aid Recruitment Professionals in their career search we provide this information to Recruiters for free, making these kinds of calls a part of our everyday routine. Issues only arise when the same Recruiter calls over and over again wanting to make a lateral move and their expectations are that the…

A good percentage of my business involves split placements. I thought it would be good to take a minute and make a note of some of the principals those of us who do splits should think about. Here are a
few of mine:
In order for me to continue providing the level of service my clients have come to expect from me I must have a strong network of trusted partners. I will do my very best to make
sure our relationship is financially…

Earlier this year, I analyzed what I called the Economic Mt Everest. I find it interesting to keep an eye out on very key economic indicators. The economy has certainly been a challenge for many, with frustrated job seekers seeking assistance. I know I have been one of those staffing professionals turned career counselor, and using my knowledge of social media techniques to help job seekers find their way. It has been a very interesting time. There are some interesting statistics that both…

At Openreq, as we help staffing firms fill their own jobs in recruiting, we very often run across firms that are either looking to sell their firm or potentially acquire other firms. The sellers are looking to exit for a variety of different reasons - retirement, lifestyle, cashing out, etc.
The buyers are interested in acquiring for a variety of reasons as well - faster growth,…

Whether someone is just beginning a new job or they have been in the same job for an extended period of time, the person's work drive is usually the same (or at least should be): to excel in that position in order to gain positive experience for a future job or promotion. While I do not pretend to be an expert on the subject by any means, I do think that succeeding in a position can boil down to a couple different variables that an employee can…

Over a year ago, I wrote about the changes in the job board world. I also promised myself I wouldn’t write about job boards ‘dying’ for at least a year. Well, time’s up!
Are some job boards dying? Well, of course they are. All industries have some companies that are dying – and some that are growing. So,…

Do you think you can find the right candidate for the right job when your resume database has resumes that were updated a year or years ago? Certainly not. There is every possibility that candidates might have updated their resumes – may be added a few certifications, acquired skill sets, domain experience or even changed their contact details, etc. So it is very vital for recruiters and hiring managers to find and extract the updated and qualified…
