Based on my agency background, here are my top five reasons:
1.
Resiliency – When you are a third-party recruiter (TPR), issues arise and you must be solutions-focused to move forward and recover quickly. Anticipate all possible scenarios in the hiring process and do not react emotionally.
2.
Continuous learning – We are very lucky to have so many leaders and experts in our field (especially on http://www.RecruitingBlogs.com - shameless plug) that willing to…

What makes me a Smart Recruiter? Recruitingblogs.com makes me a smart recruiter and all of you make me a smart recruiter. Let’s face it, we all share somewhat of the same drive and attributes as recruiters. Some just succeed a little more than others.
So what makes me different? Honestly, not much. But one day oh probably a little more than a year ago, I had some great conversations with some guy who had a vision. A vision to create a home for recruiters like you and I. A home where…

What makes me a smart recruiter......
1. I realize this is a game of "finding" not "creating".
A lot of recruiters pay lip service to the old "round hole, square peg" line about the business, but only the ones who get it know deep down that this is a game of finding, not creating. There is a right job for every person and a right person (or more appropriately, right persons) for every job. I drive my business by focusing on finding the right fit, not trying to make what I…

1. I interview every candidate - thoroughly - to understand who they are, what they want, and why I should introduce them to my clients' jobs
2. I never lie to clients or candidates - integrity is a key ingredient
3. I understand my clients' jobs - I ask questions & dig deep
4. I practice continuing education - we should never stop learning
5. I keep good records - make good use of my database

After the long hours and hard work of our team, ReferYes will launch in private beta in early January.
ReferYes is a referral marketplace where a network of sourcers provides recruiters with information about qualified candidates that fit the employer’s criteria for a certain job opening. In ReferYes anyone can become a sourcer, simply refer friends, colleagues, or anybody who would be suitable for the job, or if you are a recruiter, post jobs for free to receive quality referrals to…

Digging Into RecruitingBlogs.com v1.30: Predictions
(Dec 19, 2008) As the year winds down, prognosticators all over the world run their greedy little hands together. Now is the time for impressive feats of crystal ball gazing and hearty forecasting. Since no one has been speculating about the future of RBC, it seems like a good time and place to get the ball rolling.
I'm going to give you ten predictions about social media, Recruiting and RBC. I encourage you to disagree or…

What da effin heck is goin on heeah? The coffee that Tony Sourcerano’s just sipped misted heavily across his 27-inch LCD computer screen as the Glock symbol he used as a mouse pointer helped scroll the Flash scheme that talked of a recruiting challenge at RecruitFest2009.
Hey Bella, what is dis? A friggen professional conference or an ad for da ASPCA? What’s next – find dis guy Jason’s freakin’ squatted earls? Fuhgedaboudit!

JohnMarch Partners, a boutique healthcare search consultancy based in downtown Dallas, was awarded multiple search assignments by a UAE firm working under contract with the UAE government. We beat out several of the major firms for this assignment. Not only is the work very profitable, there is a good possibility that our academic practice will pick up related assignments.
How did we get the engagement? Believe it or not, it was not that hard. And the account acquisition costs were…

We have over 40 locations in the world in an integrated network so that we can refer work and leads to each office. This includes our main US office in Chicago. If you are a US recruiter who comes across international opportunities that you just can't fill becuase you are in one location please let me know as we are open to really fair fee shares. Bigger companies may be too arrogant or too corporate to share and smaller companies don't have the network. This system has been working for us and…

I just love creative license! Five reasons why I'm a smart recruiter:
1. I listen (no, really listen) until I can visualize myself doing the job
2. I eat my frog first (tackle the toughest tasks early) makes the rest of the day amazing!
3. I am disciplined - I keep office hours sacred, don't mix work and personal stuff and calculate the time/value of everything I do.
4. I love people!
5. I return EVERY phone call, respond to EVERY email and am honest with my…

The decision to start my own firm. This gave me the freedom to make a boatload of mistakes (and not get fired), but it also allowed me to innovate in terms of creating a rigorous candidate screening process and comprehensive dossiers with video summaries of my candidate interviews. Established search firms, like most established businesses, are not willing innovators.
That is one reason...
However, here is the truth: I am a smart recruiter because I have a great…

This is an interesting contest, and since it is pretty random who will win anyway, it will be fun to see what everyone else thinks about themselves! :)
1. My motto is:
"It is not just about who you know, but how well you keep in touch with them". I live by this motto, and more recently this has proven extremely important with my recent
lay off and job search (as well as soul search). You…

See the previous post to this series

So here we go! I have met with some fantastic organizations this past week. So far, as predicted, all have come from networking. I have received about 3 phone calls from the job boards this past week, but after calling me, the lower ranges of income that seem to be prevalent here in Utah came up within minutes of starting the conversation. As a result we…

As the economic carnage continues to unfold on Wall Street and other financial centers of the world, Main Street is beginning to brace for what could be tough times for the U.S. While healthcare typically is spared the full brunt of the misery, hospital CEOs have already started to look for ways to cut expenses and to wrench more value from the money they pay to vendors, particularly consultants.
These threatening economic times frame a more important question for healthcare, and the…

I was due for another post anyway and what better subject for that post than ME! I’ve never put a lot of thought into what makes me a smart recruiter, I’m usually much more focused on what will make me a “smarter” recruiter.
1. So I guess that’s the first thing – I am a sponge, always looking to learn new ways to do what I do better.
2. I came to in-house, corporate recruiting from a TPR background. The learning experiences from that part of my career have carried over to…
