"It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere." -- Agnes Repplier
Am I a culture fit for this company? Do my values and beliefs align with those of the organization? These are two questions that many job seekers, employers, and employees are asking themselves these days. Culture is the… ContinueAdded by Kirk Baumann on July 12, 2011 at 7:30am — No Comments
I have recently had the pleasure of managing a large volume recruitment project, and utilised partnerships with other agencies. It ocurred to me to actually learn something from my range of experiences, from "Oh yay its her again - she's a fab recruiter" to "please, please, please don't let that be X on the phone!"
These are my perceptions of what not to do and what TO do!

I was recently revisiting some learning & development material I pulled together last year on the topic of Communication. Because of the enormity of this subject I made the decision at the time to break it down into two sessions. The first was the art of “Receiving” (a.k.a listening) the premise was that contrary to popular belief, the actual key ingredient to being a master communicator is the ability to listen and give 100% attention to others. Not, as many believe, the ability to…

Technical testing when and how to do it!!!
Within the staffing community, Hiring teams (HT, (this consists of Hiring manager, and possible first and second level interviewers) and businesses themselves there has always been controversy over how do you determine the expertise level of a candidate. Interviews, technical testing, reference checks, and more are all tools that can be used. Some staffing professionals (SP), and companies…

My interview today is with Josh Sugar, whom I met through my work on the board of EO (Entrepreneurs’ Organization). A funny “small world” story is that he also happens to play basketball with my business partner, …

Even with the increased concern and political rhetoric about flat jobs growth and unemployment in the US, it's no secret that IT professionals are in demand. IT hiring demand has been increasing rapidly throughout the 1st half of this year, up 56% percent since the beginning of the year. Employers and staffing agencies posted more than 251,500 new online job ads for IT professionals in June, up 1.7% from May.
Hiring Demand for Computer…

If you think that this blog is all about the movie, “Horrible Bosses” which opened nationwide July 8, you are sadly mistaken. That movie has been highly publicized and has already received some mixed reviews, even though the cast is not lacking for star power (Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Aniston). Summer movies very rarely fall…

I am a big Harry Potter fan and I am a sourcer - you might have noticed that I am part way through a monster Harry Potter marthon this week! I’ve tenuously linked the two together in order to impart a few talent sourcing tips – enjoy!
DEFENCE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS
Alistair “Mad eye” Moody had a point – it doesn’t hurt to always be vigilant. I’m not talking about keeping an eye out for Death Eaters or dark magic, but for…

If you have ever been a TV Hospital drama junkie, you would have heard the word triage many times.
Certainly I noticed my wife perk up noticeably when George Clooney strides into the waiting room on any episode of ER.
Triage is the process of prioritising patient treatment, based on the severity of their condition.
Recruitment has none of the drama or dire consequences of triage in the medical sense. Nevertheless, poor recruiting triage skills can mean…

Recruitment lends itself as well to catchphrases as any other other industry. On my travels through the industry I have worked with some very creative individuals who have a beautiful knack of summing up a situation or person with a few well chosen words. I have also worked with others that have developed what seems like an entirely different language and make little sense unless you have the appropriate translation phrase book.
Regardless, what I have found is that a good…

If I had a dollar for every resume I saw that did not include “key achievements”, I would be a very wealthy resume writer!
Failing to include key achievements throughout your resume is a recipe for disaster and will cause your resume to be put straight in the deleted folder and never to be seen again.
The job market is competitive, and if you’re going to prove to the hiring manager that you are the…

I often witness Independent Recruiters are living fee to fee, and that every deal they work on is do or die for them. This is no way to run a viable, stable business.

What are the three most important things for start-up companies? We’ve all heard it a million times, “location, location, location”. It makes sense for any company that has a physical product or service they are offering. It wouldn’t make sense for someone to open an auto body shop in an Amish town or offer snow removal service in Florida. The idea is to reach your customers where they are, so how does the old saying apply to Cloud companies? What does it matter where you are located…
