Be a Better Recruiter: Be Altruistic

I believe everything happens for a reason. That being said, my flight left that afternoon, my wife Kaella and I were off to New York (my first time). When the airplane lifted from the runway and Justin Beiber’s Never Say Never started playing, I thought, “…everything… Continue

When corporate staffing budgets were decimated over the last three years, and have (very) slowly moved back up again as the economy has trickled upwards, there has been a renewed dialogue on this age-old question. We have at least three…

“Candidate Experience” question….

Next week I throw myself back into recruiting (this time, corporate – something new!).  I’ve been thinking a lot about how I’m going to handle the candidate experience.  Surely some things are out of my control – I will be working with a recruiting coordinator, flexing to the needs and schedules of my hiring managers, and of course the whims of the candidates themselves.  (Of course I want to work for your company.  Unless this other offer comes through.  I can interview anytime.  Except…

Living up or down to your reputation?

I was listening to a Wayne Dyer CD again. I like listening on the way to work because it distracts me from the long commute and it helps me focus on the important things in life. My take away from my last drive was the concept of reputation. He said something very simple and yet so true. He said that our reputation is not with us, it is with other people. Many of us spend a lot… Continue

I thought this was a great take on the Common Mistakes in a Job Search.

LinkedIn IPO - Good News for Staffing Industry

LinkedIn’s IPO a few weeks ago was a defining moment in staffing. I took it as a sign that we had reached an official turning point in the struggle to jump-start the economy. Yes, I know, we aren’t there yet – some people say unemployment hasn’t recovered quite yet at 9.1%. Although,…

Job-Seekers: Can you cultivate and leverage a relationship with a recruiter

This originated in a conversation I had with a columnist on TheLadders.  I am a Recruiter and Business Development VP for Elever Professional, a nationwide search firm with consultants in Austin, Los Angeles and New York. Our consultants are in the business of farming professional relationships. In rather broad fashion, I'm offering some professional insight into how job seekers can… Continue

Ask not what social networking can do for you...

…but rather what you can do with Social Networking...

Very simple and straight forward isn’t it?

A lot of time as a sourcer OR a recruiter, you wonder how best any specific tool or website can help you. I think it is about your approach and mindset as a sourcer that decides the outcome. Many times we…

Alabama Passes Tough New Immigration Law

The State of Alabama has passed what some have considered one of the toughest immigration laws in the country. The law was passed initially by a large voting margin and comes in the wake of the recent United States Supreme Court ruling on the Arizona's Legal Worker's Act of 2007 that sanctions businesses for hiring undocumented workers. Businesses in Arizona face fines and even loss of business license for repeated offenses.

As with the Arizona law, the new Alabama statute mandates… Continue

Cold Calling: A Junior Sales Activity?

Cold Calling: a junior sales activity? A topic of discussion in many an interview I've had with senior sales professionals is 'lead generation' and 'cold calling' and their willingness to pick up the phone to generate a new business opportunity. Many well established career sales people I've met feel as though they have moved…

Building a larger EcoSystem of Technical Talent -Think like an outsourcing firm

Onshore, Offshore, Outsourcing, Insourcing....there are all different words for it but one great Constant: Talent Pipelines

I've been interviewing with a large breadth of companies.  These are stellar organizations all technically innovative and all have the same challenge.  How do they create a new ecosystem of talent for their current and future needs?  Talent is their number one concern but yet many are approaching employment strategies in tradition ways and are not ready…
