How OS2i began ---- Regan George

Late one Friday afternoon a few years ago a client called me with a couple of IT position she needed to fill fast: CV’s reviewed next week, interviews the week after, the job to start the following week. I knew the client well, I knew exactly what she wanted and I knew the positions would be easy ones to fill. So, I posted a couple of well written job adverts on a number of IT Job Boards, comfortable in the knowledge that, come Monday morning, I’d have a plenty of good response.

Direct Recruiting from the Competitor -- Poaching or Aggressive Recruiting

There are many different opinions when it comes to this topic. In highly competitive niche industries the best talent is typically gainfully employed by your top one or two competitors. Why settle for table scraps (active applicants) when you can go after "all the fixins"? Is it more acceptable for a Corporate HR department to put this request into the hands of a Third Party recruiter? Is it unethical across the board?

Personally, I think it is the best resource for applicable talent… Continue

Linkedin...

There is a lot of information out there about how to use Linkedin and I will admit that I've been slow to recognize the power of Linkedin.

About 6 weeks ago, I had about 20 direct connections with people that I knew well and quite frankly didn't see any advantage in Linkedin over the mulititude of social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and others...what was the point since I was already connected to my friends on Facebook.

And then I got clued in...one of my… Continue

Now look. I don't know what it is about recruitment agents that makes them unable to understand the phrase "I am no longer seeking work", so I have removed my CV from my website in a desperate attempt to get them to stop 'phoning me.

The Seven Habits of Successful e-Recruiters

Successful sourcing can be developed by adopting the best practices of successful e-recruiters.

1. Organize your research – in the form of organized bookmarks, favorites or a notebook. Maintain research folders for associations, company profiles, financial profiles, industry resource folders, news resources and other links.

2. Use Advanced Search Options Wherever Available - Prepare Boolean search strings ready for each type of advanced search in a search engine.… Continue

Wednesday Wisdom: Poached, please - with solicitation on the side

Dear Claudia,

I recently challenged my recruiting team to source hard-to-find candidates from a department of a local competitor, and one of the recruiters came back with a whole roster for us...unfortunately, she slept with one of their engineers to get it. She doesn’t think it’s a big deal, but I’m really concerned about using this information under the circumstances. What do you think?

Uneasy

Dear Uneasy,

Truthfully, I think you may have… Continue

Beating Recession with Employment Branding

A colleague of mine Peter Sukonek, CEO of Big Gravity, a local branding firm recently wrote two articles on his blog about recession marketing. He refers to experts like Steve Abdalla and John Quelch about recession marketing. It is an excellent post and I recommend that you read it. Today I would like to expand on Peter’s article about recession marketing and how it applies to employment branding. Peter quotes John Quelch, a professor at Harvard Business School,

Executive Job Market Intelligence Report 2008

As some members of RecruitingBlogs.com are aware, for the past 16 years ExecuNet has run a survey focused on the executive marketplace. It is called The Executive Job Market Intelligence Report.

It not only takes a great deal of time to put it together, but also an enormous amount of time in analyzing the data, and this year was certainly no exception as we had over 6,000 responses -… Continue

Layoffs bite

I've talked to several of my contemporaries over the past couple of weeks and the consensus was Q1 was not great for the IT Staffing business. Many of us haven't recovered from the usual drop in headcount at the end of the year and are wondering when things will start to recover. We've seen a couple of clients start to pick up and I am hopeful that Q2 isn't the disaster (maybe too strong a word - struggle?) Q1 was. I will stick with disaster personally because yesterday we were forced to cut 2… Continue
