Public Speaking

Here are some annoying public speaking habits. They can be deal breakers, so avoid these annoying habits at all costs!

* Voice Trailing Off - Many speakers let their voices trail off at the end of every sentence. The audience can hear the first part of their sentence, but they have no idea what pearls of wisdom might be lost in the whispers at the end.

* Looking Down - Sometimes this speaker will deliver complete sentences inaudibly while looking down — obviously not… Continue

Get Out The Vote - Get Your Free Goodies - Get The Political Rhetoric Off Your Web Site!

If you haven't already voted today, get your tuchus out there and pull a lever. Here in Washington State, we vote by mail and my voting was done weeks ago. I am really looking forward to all of the political signs, commercials, sign-wavers, et al. to go away like magic tonight... Poof! No more multi-colored signs lighting up street corners like so many gawdy-colored flowers.

Additionally - if you vote, you are able to cash in on lots of free "goodies" from different companies.… Continue

The Types of sourcing

(this is a response to a post on Sourcers unleashed on the types of sourcing...)

The types of sourcing that I do is a mix of online (passive and active), phone and networking.

The online sourcing can be broken down further into targeting active candidates/those that respond (ie low hanging fruit) through various job boards and getting responses from general and niche job boards. Then of course there is using the Internet to identify passive candidates that may be… Continue

Interviews....how long is too long

I don’t have a job yet. I am not rushing to take any job. I just relocated and I’m looking to stay for a long while where I land. I write this as it currently applies to me, I would be very happy for everyone else if it only applied to me, but I doubt that it does. Unfortunately, what I am finding right now is the interview process is so drawn out that it is almost impossible to keep up the momentum and I’m sure some candidates would feel lukewarm by the time they receive an offer, if they… Continue

An executive compensation model that makes sense

Both candidates for President have publicly acknowledged that executive pay is out of line. In today's NY Times comes a blog post that speaks to a unique compensation model that isn't too far off what the hedgies already receive.

The novel elements include paying bonuses based strictly on accounting performance (rather than stock performance), benchmarking of executives against the… Continue

Vote Americans, Vote

Whether you believe Obama is prepared or not, history is being made. Whether you believe only McCain can protect our country, history is being made. Whether you believe our country needs to change, history is being made. But if you believe that not voting is the best choice you can make because you don't like either candidate, history will pass you by.

Job Interview Preparation - Three Key Steps for all Candidates

Candidates must pay attention to their personal public image during their job search. These are three critical details that are often overlooked but they can derail the chances of getting the job.

I cannot believe how addictive this site actually is. I think I am a Recruitment junkie... Slouch, I don't know you, but if you read this, thanks for setting up such a site, allowing me to be part of a global community from my little home and office in Melbourne, Australia.

Jason Gorham's Sharkstrike and other tools

I spoke with Jason Gorham about his tools today. I just tried his Sharkstrike product and was curious about it and the Careermetasearch site. Here's what I understand now - I wanted to share this with others.

Jason is an expert in keyword marketing. He and his company have collected very valuable data over the years: the keywords people and companies use when they search on Google, and when they advertise on Google.

This collection can be taken advantage of in many… Continue

Trick or Treating insights

On Halloween I took my 3 year old to a local mall for trick or treating. As we went around the different retailers, most gave out stickers, and the candy that was given out was mostly dum-dum's and small tootsie rolls. Clearly not the year of the retailer. What really caught my attention was that several companies decided either to give out coupons (15 off your next 75 dollar purchase at our store) or simply did not participate.

It left such an impression on me, that I found my self… Continue

SmartRecruiters Ask for Change...

SmartRecruiters As the train pulled in this morning I waved at my fellow and familiar commuters. I shared where I'd been for a week to those that asked as we boarded the same double decker mode of transportation that pulls out of the station at the same time every day. I moved to the back of the car to my normal seat, fired up the laptop, and sipped on my coffee (from my new JuJu travel mug) and thought to myself, "It's good to get back into my morning groove where things are dependable and the… Continue

Getting your resume found

I wrote this following entry on my website to encourage Job Seekers to post their resume on a home page
http://web.me.com/hydra9/Resume/Getting_your_resume_found.html

Certain professions like Software Engineers are far more likely to put together a Home Page with their resume than others but many of use search engines to find candidates.

Year end close out sale! Everything must go.

Football season is almost over, and winter is on the way. Cold, runny noses, shorter days, and a time when everyone is looking forward to the Holidays, but during this time of the year, I really like it!

When the alarm goes off Monday morning, I'm a happy camper. I pop into the office with a big toothy grin, folks stare blankly as I saunter over to the coffee pot (Hey, it's free) and give everyone a wink and a nod.

Remember all those old reqs where the manager likes to… Continue

Microsoft to unveil test version of Windows 7

CNN Post

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The next version of Microsoft Windows, the software that defines the computing experience for most people, will nag users much less than its much-maligned predecessor, Vista. PC users will be able to test the new edition early next year.
