So there's a bit of a fuss online with recruiters that took offense to
Peter Weddle's recent article that social media within the realm of recruiting is just a scam. Some said
he was wrong and others outright…

Health care leaders need to employ patience and persistence if they're going to create a beneficial, shared culture in a growing system.
Consistency
Health care systems with a strong culture ensure that their environment is represented in all of its offices or operations. To achieve this, the organization must apply and measure the same processes, policies and rules throughout the field. If there is a significant variance, then the culture will not be seen as important or a…

Customer Service is an amazing thing. Something which seems so easy and straight forward, you're helpful, friendly and essentially do as you say, providing a service.
RANT WARNING.
This may seem petty to some, but this really got my blood boiling the other day. My 5 year old son was awarded an encouragement award at the local football club a few weeks ago (OK they all get them, but it didn't quell the pride, father and son both felt as he picked up his award.) The award, a…

To me the internet is the shining light on the economic horizon. I see it opening up so many doors. This world of social networking is amazingly powerful. That fact that people from all over the world can connect and relate is wonderful. I think we are on the edge of some remarkable changes where the "little guys" voice and influence can effect great changes.

I can't go to Recruitfest this year on September 23rd and 24th, and I'm pissed. It has the unfortunate fate of falling in a month that contains two of my kids' birthdays, my anniversary, my Shriner initiation, and a guest spot on The View. Plus the fact that I'm helping to put on the first ever TalentNet Live Expo here in Dallas to coincide with…

(I initially posted this at jonathanmcleodrecruiting.blogspot.com, but thought some people at RecruitingBlogs might enjoy it too.)
Cleaning up my inbox, I found my letter of resignation from my previous job. Some might wonder, what the hell was I thinking?
Keep in mind that I liked the job, was good friends with my boss (and still am), and was on very good terms with the company... oh, and I…

RecruitFest! 2009
It makes me smile every time I post that.
I was very tentative about going last year. It would make my 4th conference in as many months and that seemed a bit hard to justify just from a time off perspective, let alone the costs involved. Working for myself means that I have to really think hard about where and when to spend money. So for me, a trip to Toronto was in place of a vacation to Europe or Jamaica.…

Anyone who has entered the job market in the last 6 -10 months knows that the market and the job hunting process is vastly different then the last time they experienced it and unfortunately recruiters that many people have depended on in the past for advice are no more educated in the new methods and process of the job hunt than they are. It is not really the recruiters fault since in this new job market they are no longer one of the most important factors in the successful job search and they…

In an interview you will be asked two questions about compensation. If you do not handle them correctly it will be the end of the interview process or cost you a lot of money.
The first question is about earnings history. “What are you earning or what did you earn in your most recent job”?The second question is about your required compensation. “What do you need “? “What are you looking for”?
I have seen lots of bad advice on LinkedIn and other sites about these questions.…

I'm passionate about a few things... My family, my work, and not being bored. So it's important to me that I try to do everything I can to keep things fresh and exciting... to really push every aspect of the things I like so that they're always at their best - or most productive. One of the things that I think are important under the banner of family is my health.
So I'm back into my rhythm at the gym. Trying out new things and making sure that I'm not on any specific or…

Take a moment to think about all the business interactions you had last week…..are you thinking? OK, in how many of those interactions were you alone? Were there any?
The truth is so much of business is about relationships: Customer to supplier, manager to employee, co-worker to co-worker, job candidate to hiring manager etc. Really, how many times a day are you alone? Before you answer, keep in mind that your phone relationships count too.
So, we have all these interactions with…

" did the technique work? - then it was the right technique".
These words of wisdom came from my martial arts instructor..The point being it is fruitless to worry about adhering to a particular "way", when the goal is survival.
What does this have to do with recruiting you ask? Well, ones recruiting methodology most likely mirrors that of the people who taught you to recruit, and much like habits, methodologies have a direct impact on ones success,
Methodologies…

Well, you've heard of baby, engagement and bridal showers. Why not do something nice for yourself and have a Job Shower! Forget Pink Slip Parties which help you network with equally desperate and unemployed folks all vying for the same job. What if you tried a different approach-desperate times, create desperate measures or something like that. Be kind to yourself and allow others to help you and throw yourself a Job Shower!
You might ask, "How would that work exactly if I'm…

This is the year of the Cougar, Brah and Bro. Do not hire them! Trust me, these folks will ruin a Recruiting department in a New York minute. Here is how.
The Staffing Cougar
Staffing agencies are crowded with Office Cougars (aka Account Executives). They are fiercest of the Cougar species. They approach their prey (aka Hiring Managers) with little fear and maul them in broad day light. Not a good, especially if your agency has squeaky clean reputation. However,…
