Why do I blog?

My hat's off to Dan for inspiring this post. After reading his I began thinking about why it is that I blog here.

I think what it boils down to is my desire to continue learning and expanding my knowledge not only of my profession, but the world around me. That may not sound like it has much to do with me writing blog posts, but bear with me. I think that knowledge and learning are paramount to success. Anybody who tells me they are pondering whether to go straight through grad… Continue

Bye-bye secret bank account

My how times are changing... you might have heard that UBS has agreed to pay $780 million in fines as part of an IRS investigation into the hiding of money offshore to evade taxes.

What rankles me is the suspicion that from late 2002 to 2007, UBS helped wealthy American clients illegally hide $20 billion, evading $300 million a year in taxes. Math time!

That would be… Continue

Where Does One Go From Here? The Economic Question.

In the past 2 weeks, new lessons emerged which show me that I am the sum of my effort, and the outcome of my own inward passion.

In the short space of 2 weeks I have learned a great deal from others, as many good folks reach out to make this young upstart a better man.

Service to others, my family, coworkers, friends, associates, and others is so vital.

How can I lift up others if I find myself worried about circumstances I cannot control? The lesson of these 2… Continue

RiseSmart Marketing Shift May Create Relationships

By Richard Becker, Copywrite, Ink.

Almost one year ago, two companies set out to differentiate themselves from other job search sites within the same niche: TheLadders and RiseSmart. Each wanted to dominate a subscription-based job site niche that focuses on jobs starting at $100k.

However, with the economic downturn, pursuing qualified employers or qualified candidates in a race toward a shrinking middle seemed increasingly… Continue

Friend Requests--Social Networking Makes Me Feel Really Uncool

Just a forewarning: I am about to ramble. I realize how important social networking is, whether you are looking for candidates, looking for job leads, or looking for a job yourself. It's important to build up your network, whether the need is immediate or not, so that when you have a fit of skill to job description--BOOM. You're a leg up on the competition.

However...building a social network is nervewrecking. Maybe it goes back to me being a social outcast most of my life but… Continue

There are no secrets, it is simple as Believing, Acting and Receiving.

Babies use it all the time, you used it all the time growing up, and now you think it will not work for you because you are an adult?

The Law of Attraction (LOA) has been around for eternity and will continue to be here until the end of all energy.

Now, in it’s most simplest form, the LOA works like… Continue

Candidate Prep Friend or Foe?

When it comes to candidate preparation, there seems to be two major schools of thought. On one side, there is the school of recruiters who believe strongly in the benefits of preparing candidates before send outs. These staffing professionals believe it's their responsibility to provide a good candidate prep to help close hiring gaps and assist hiring managers with weak interview skills. On the other hand, other recruiters feel coaching their candidates before an interview interferes… Continue

IT companies in Germany build up a community to recommend applicants ITsax.de

We have just launched a new community on HR recruiters and CEOs of 17 IT companies in Saxony, Germany who recommend their applicants among each other. How? They recommend the good ones, who cannot be hired due to several reasons, to the other members of the communities. The recommendation is done by a reference code that is given to the denied applicants by the recommending organization. After that the applicant can go to the community-exclusive portal (… Continue

Zombie Candidates

I don't know how many times I have to learn this lesson but it makes me laugh/cry/scream everytime I learn it. You know how sometimes you can be so fixated on a candidates skills and how perfectly they align with a job you are recruiting for that you forget to read the notes? Then you call the candidate and find out they are pure crazy and what ensues can only be described as a tragicomedy of sorts. Yeah. Did that today. Candidate has apparently applied to the same company a million times by… Continue

Gunnin' for the Boss

Dear Claudia,

I’ll cut to the chase: my boss is an idiot, and I want his job. I think I can do it better than him, faster, and probably a whole lot cheaper for the company. The CEO will be spending some time in our office over the next month, and I’d like to use the opportunity to tell him my suggestions to improve our department performance. I think I can make a good business case to replace him; do you think it’s a good idea, or job suicide?

Wannabe

Dear… Continue

In This Economy...

In this economy...

I won't bother getting up early, because there is no business anyway.

I won't make many calls, because - "Who is hiring?"

I'll go out to lunch with friends, because nothing is happening.

ARE YOU CREATING YOUR OWN RECESSION?

If you are thinking like this, you are.

I did some heavy business development today. Since everyone has been bellyaching about the economy, I didn't expect much.

Guess what - I… Continue
