For some bizarre reason, I seem to attract more than anyone’s fair share of random inquiries, peculiar requests for assistance and other assorted mystery messages on a regular basis. One such recent item that caught my attention was the following snippet from a person presumably running some sort of “recruiting” service…
As you will notice, this was a generic message sent to my email but not addressed to me by name – probably because I was only one of the thousand or so…

I was at the RCSA Conference in Fiji last week. As a speaker, but also as an attendee. And I took some notes, trying to capture the highlights. I share these with you today. Enjoy.

Is there a certain type of recruiting software that you wish existed right now but doesnt?
Does any of the software you use today make you want to punch the screen?
What part of your day is frustrating or costs you money or time?
I'm curious whats on recruiters minds...reply back with a comment and I just might build it for…

Like a drunk on a bender, the driver in the truck ahead of me this morning was swerving as he buried his head in his smartphone. It was a classic case study in the dangers of distraction and why this is often compared to driving while intoxicated. In it’s own way, the allure of the words and pictures on those touchscreens have an intoxicating effect, drawing people in and diverting attention from navigating a ton of metal, plastic, and glass.
The roadways are not the only place where…

If you look at the HR Technology marketplace, you will notice that centralization is a big trend in the space. You see this in HRIS platforms, Talent Management Suites and Recruitment Marketing Platforms as well as the motivation for many of the acquisitions that have happened in the last year (SuccessFactors, Taleo, Kenexa, etc.)
While there are some niche…

Labor demand dipped slightly in August as employers posted 0.2% fewer job opportunities compared to July. Now heading into the fall hiring season labor demand may increase again depending on how confident employers are about their economic future. We do not expect a boost in the coming months since significant uncertainties (presidential election, “fiscal cliff”, Europe’s debt struggles) influence the national economic mood.
Consumer…

The other day I was watching Breaking Bad, which I believe is one of the smartest and best acted shows on television. The premise of the show is that Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher, contracts cancer and begins cooking methamphetamines to help with the cost of his treatment. After his cancer goes into remission, however, he continues to put…

Welcome to the Avoidant Economy, where cash is King and companies have made it their thrones as they sit on piles of it. Welcome to delayed decisions, fear of overhead, and the permanent change in the psyche of buyers as a result of the Great Recession. The Avoidant Economy is not going away, in fact, it’s getting broader and deeper as volatility, uncertainty, and fear continue to prompt leaders to pause before making decisions and choices. Even the upcoming election will do little to change…

We all have our opening lines when we make a cold call....they may be a simple "hello", "how are you?" or "Mr./Ms./Mrs. XYZ, i currently have an opportunity for you which i think would be of your liking!! "
This simple "Hello!!" 'MAY' change the course of the conversation...whether the candidate would feel interested or he/she might just say that he/she is currently in a meeting and to call back some other time!! The tone of the "Hello!" might also affect the conversation and…
