A Return To What Matters Most

A Return To What Matters Most.....

Yes. There is a lot to be thankful for these days. I still have a job and can try to help others get a new job or better job. This is the power that I still have being employed in an industry I love-Recruiting & HR Consulting.

Looking back on the past year I felt myself want to fly forward as this new year came upon me. In March I have to look at the challenges ahead and realize it is… Continue

A Fresh Approach To Job Order Leads

Every day, recruiters nationwide use job boards to prospect for new business leads. But searching job boards manually is a tedious process. As more searches are performed, an increasing amount of duplicate companies are encountered, and the process becomes increasingly inefficient. Ultimately, it becomes too labor intensive and time-consuming, and the project is often scrapped.

Evergreen Interactive has solved this problem. We have automated the process of searching job boards for… Continue

Who need a talent pipeline?

With restrictions being placed on essentially every aspect of our hiring it has made talent pooling an interesting endeavor. Sure, we have a few 'future opportunity' positions posted here and there, and the plethora of unemployed engineers in the area means I have a steady flow of unsolicited applications from experienced professionals.

But what of our entry-level talent?

Historically my company has had a strong co-op and intern program that was something of a farm system… Continue

The Client Side - Is Agency Recruiting A Bubble Business?

Like everyone else, I've been thinking a lot about our industry lately and all the changes it is going through. There is no doubt that Agency Recruiting is going through permanent change. I came into this business on the heels of big change, in 2002. Internet, e-mail and job boards had all become much more mainstream and the IT bust had just occurred. From the beginning, for me, I had the view that this industry was evolving and getting better. I held a strong belief that this would continue… Continue

Great things being done by Great Companies for the Economy

I ran into a co-worker yesterday, that had been denied application to a high profile (government vendor) company, because she was unemployed. I couldn't believe it. Yes, I hear from hiring managers that they don't want someone out of work because the stigma is the candidates are lowest performers. However, in this economy??? Get real. But its happening, and it's happening at companies receiving benefits from the bail out. Okay so that is disappointing, we could moan and complain. However, I'm… Continue

Will Job loss rates reduce by Easter?

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) have suggested that the worst of the UK’s current job losses will be over by Easter 2009.

Research carried out by the CIPD indicated that unemployment trends in the UK followed the US, suggesting that the rate of job losses will decrease as American firms planning to cut jobs has “fallen from one in three to one in five”.

Recruiter Man

Taking a little inspiration from one of my all-time favorites, I re-wrote a song to cheer up an agency friend of mine who had a string of bad luck. I realize my lyrics aren't nearly as genius as the original, but hopefully this at least brings a smile to a few faces.

It's five o'clock on a Friday

The clock watchers all punching out

My manager he walks up to me

And he looks just a bit down and out

He says, "Son, can you find me a resume?

I'm not really… Continue

Telling the Truth -- Key Ingredient to Hiring and Retention Success

As I have observed dozens of professionals transition into new jobs over the years, one of the key ingredients to their success in a new environment has been the level of communication shared with the new employer. Starting with the interview process, the more forthcoming the hiring company has been, and the fewer negative surprises the new employee experiences, the stronger the commitment and willingness to stick it out through difficult times.

If your company is facing tough… Continue

Even in an Employer's Market -- Hiring Must Be Strategic

A common myth in a troubled economy is that recruiting is an easier task because there are so many available (i.e., unemployed) candidates to choose from. It is true that there are more people looking for jobs and conceivably more candidates to choose from – but more people available will not assure you of finding the right person.

Chances are, in this employer's market that you will receive a promising number of responses to a job post, but the chances are slim that you will find… Continue
