Recruit Alliance Kudos

A while back, some genius decided to cut and paste Full job description from Recruit Alliance which caused a huge security threat to Recruit Alliance and everyone that uses it. As a result, the site was forced to ‘lock’ it’s descriptions in order to protect its intellectual properties and the integrity of the service. Rightfully so!! Inadvertently, locking the descriptions threw a wrench in the way I organize and track of my reqs which caused a logistics nightmare for me. I called over to the… Continue

Super Bowl Ads 2009- FAIL ? It was a violent time of it.....

Well that was fun, but not really.

Football is a violent sport- that's one of the reasons why we enjoy it- because the violence is in support of the goal; part of the price of victory. Two weeks ago, the Steelers-Ravens collision was one of the most violent football games I ever watched- scary at times in its intensity.

So when you watch the Super Bowl, the ads have always… Continue

No Pot of Gold at the End of This Rainbow

With more and more companies reducing headcount a trend has emerged that has me baffled. As you might expect we’ve targeted companies that are performing poorly because they are easier to recruit from since logically many more people are looking to “jump ship”, but what we’ve seen is that while many of these potential candidates are expecting to be let go the are actually waiting around for it to happen.

The big reason….the severance package…Huh?

Yes it seems the belief of… Continue

"The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef is a newly created position. Everyday Business

With over 200 graduates through my Global Mentor Program you can understand that I am witness to commonalities in shortcomings, regularities in obstacles confronted, and similarities in approaches done poorly. Many of the mentoring delegates in the very beginning of their six months working with me, ask the same single question (although the wording may vary, the intent is exact):

"Where should I start to improve… Continue

Changing marketplace, demands better preparation

After attending previous ERE and ASA conferences and working with staffing clients over the years, I have been told many times over and over...the staffing companies need to 'think forward". This was the biggest reason I left my career in human resources (recruitment and training) and started putting my skills, knowledge and experience to use. My partner and I wanted to create a software that was specific to the staffing industry that they could provide to their candidates. We wanted to create… Continue

Part III: Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack, forging that relationship!

I simply love this story for a number of reasons, a) my son was named from it. (as a Recruiter, we had a short list of names when my son was being born (2 for boys, 2 for girls). When he came out the doctor announced "It's a boy! What's his name?". I mentioned our short list... the doctor said..."easy.. Zachary..... Zachary Quack") b) the Onomatopoeia and c) The lessons you can relate to day to day… Continue

Buy American...Recruit American?

Seems that several lobbyists managed to convince the House to insert Buy American - initially prohibiting the purchase of foreign iron and steel for any infrastructure project in the bill. Not only does Obama's bill smell like a pig sty because all of the pork in the bill but if many of the trades had their way, steel wouldn't be the only product or service covered by Buy American… Continue

Simply Amazing

Below is my comment that I would leave on recruiterearth but I can't.

My Comment:

I just watched this video and this is an example of how social networking can go wrong. It's an example of how free software can make it so easy to fool people, and the allure of perceived fame is just too strong for some to resist. Here is the original post with lots of… Continue

Have Candidates Use CARS for Maximum Impact.

As a recruiter, you sometimes may need to coach candidates on how to present themselves in the best possible light to a prospective employer. You know that this candidate is highly qualified for the position you are seeking to fill, but their resume and interviewing skills don’t show their full potential. Here’s a simple tool you can use to coach the candidate to shine.

In a recent post we discussed the difference between the old resume style and… Continue

Burning Man Meets Recruiting

Recruitfest is on and it's going down in Vegas this year! I haven't been to one yet but I know Jason Davis and the first thing that comes to mind is Burning Man meets recruiting.

I do know that the seed of Recruitfest was born from Jeff Hunters Talentunconference. This was a grassroots gathering of recruiting professionals and leaders. Instead of traditional presentations the focus was on learning organically from one… Continue

Question: Should Junior Level professionals blog?

I wanted to ask this to the recruitingblogs audience in order to see if I get the same sort of answers I got on Linkedin. Please answer with your initial reaction here before looking at the answers I am getting there. That way we can all test to see if the answers are different since they would be unprejudiced by the previous answers.

So, Should Junior Level professionals blog?

Assuming that one was beginning in a new profession and either knew quite a bit about one thing, or a… Continue

Go the extra mile for your candidates!

Why is it that the most recruiters focus most of their attention on the need of their clients and give little time to the desires of the candidate? I know that the majority are taught how to take a detailed job order which will enable them to match a candidate’s skills to a vacancy and the better recruiters are competent in understanding the potential career opportunity available. Then, in my opinion, many recruiters lose the plot…. they go out of their way to sell the job vacancy to potential… Continue

my new recruiting network agreement between RecruitingBlogs.com and your Ning recruiting network

This blog post is for members of RecruitingBlogs.com that run recruiting related Ning sites.

I have been thinking about this for a long time and I am in the process of some major "housecleaning"

1. If you are the administrator of a Ning network and you come to RecruitingBlogs.com in order to build your "friend connections" so that you can then invite them to join your own network, I will ask that you put a RecruitingBlogs.com… Continue
