Employee Backlash Looming

With the state of the current economy this topic is highly premature, but as a recruiter who is out there speaking with employed people everyday about the limited number of jobs out there I can’t even begin to count the number of them that have gone into detail about how their employer-employee relationship has changed. While they have no other recourse but continue the status quo and keep there jobs, they are certainly of the mindset that as soon as things get better they are out the door. Now… Continue

My Top 10 Job Hunting Tips

Looking for a job is frustrating, depressing and seems like an endless cycle little that is positive.

This is especially true if your main job hunting tactic is "Click and Apply".

You know the one, everyday, checking out the different job boards, finding a job you are suitable for and then clicking on the link and applying for the job. Wondering why you are not getting called.

And in fact you do know why, you are one of the thousands of other people doing the… Continue

The Trolley Problem

“A trolley is running out of control down a track. In its path are 5 people who have been tied to the track. Fortunately, you can flip a switch, which will lead the trolley down a different track to safety. Unfortunately, there is a single person tied to that track. Should you flip the switch?”

Isn’t this a common problem that many Recruitment Process Outsourcing decision-makers face?

If they do nothing with talent acquisition, then surely, as discontent grows with… Continue

Successful Entrepreneurship; FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS

What's one very important attribute of a successful start-up? Is it the brilliant idea? Continuous innovation? or the plain old execution? All of the above are important for the young company to survive and flourish. However, over the last decade or so that I have dealt with start-ups including building a few of my own, I have realized that focus on execution is key. There are tons of examples of companies that had just another product like many others but out shined the rest with pure focus on… Continue

To Be or Not To Be; A Manager

To be or Not to Be.........a manager is the question. After a few years starting off in any job, most people ask the question, should I become a manager or continue to be an individual contributor?

In some countries, taking the role of a manager is not only prestigious but also the only way to grow one's compensation. In other countries such as in the U.S, a solid individual contributor can not only rake in the cash like any other manager but also is accepted and respected in the… Continue

Has anyone else tried Fill-Staff 10 For Recruiters Pro yet? CRM+ATS+ARP

I found this software a while ago, and I must say I have been highly impresseed. I have been recruiting for some time and would say the one thing that can make the difference between a placement and non-placement is keeping everything in line. When you are working multiple positions, being able to look things up and keep them straight is a huge help. Has anyone else tried this? It is an ACT! database structure, and so far it is great....but I was wondering if anyone else had tried it. I have… Continue

You Are Not Alone....

Finding your way through the myriad of updates, news blasts and Tweets about jobs and the economy is like finding your way out of a maze. Who do you listen to and who can you trust? It’s not that you shouldn’t be reminded of how the unemployment rate is nearing 10%, or that certain sectors of the economy like manufacturing for instance, may be part of a bygone era. It’s good to know where the opportunities lie and where to put your efforts. Knowledge is Power someone wise once said. But when is… Continue

Unemployed and Under Employed Candidate Flow is High, but Candidate Pool Still Only Half Full

When it comes to recruiting there are many aspects to focus on in the process. Some focus on the sheer quantity of resumes to provide with an acceptable pool of talent in which to choose from while others are more focused on the quality of the candidates and accessing more than just the individuals that are hitting the job boards to insure they are looking at the highest level of talent available to them.

As we know during a downturn in the economy many candidates that have been impacted… Continue

My Thoughts on Job Matching

I've been asked for consult on several occasions about whether or not to use job matching systems. Obviously depending on the system my answers will vary although if I'm asked about job matching in general here's my opinion.

Stand alone job matching platforms do not have a chance against the more traditional models, no matter the economic climate.

Why?

In a job seeker rich… Continue

No so fast on leaving New York State

Back on May 22, I noted that Tom Golisano, founder and billionaire owner of Paychex, decided that New York statutory environment was driving businesses out of the state. Under the now - and hopefully single term - Governor Patterson, New York is becoming a place that is unfriendly towards business; unfriendly to business means unfriendly to recruiting.

Yesterday saw an old fashioned coup up in… Continue
