We Must Have Hit The Fountain of Youth... We sure as hell don't feel 40

January is a big month in the Thomson household.  It kind of sucks to tell you the truth, simply because we all have birthdays at the same time.  My wife, brother, sister-in-law and me all have our birthdays in January.  To make it even more complicated, my wife and I are both hitting the 4 -oh this year.  Yea, 40.  Laura's birthday is January 19th, and mine is the…

So, why are you an "Agency Recruiter"?

I am not a "third party" recruiter.  I was in the past.  I eventually found myself in the corporate role that I am in now.  Although I wonder how my life would be different if I had not chosen this path what are the reasons you do? The Staffing Conundrum - Managing High Staffing Volume and Bandwidth

It happened for the first time in a long time.  I have always been the forward thinker, the one to think outside the box when the staffing conundrum comes.  When high volume comes crashing in and life's myriad of moments demand you to solve a whirlwind of staffing needs on a shoe-string budget with time pressing in on all sides.  And to do this in the midst of tremendous life changes swirling rapidly around you.  It is the prioritization factors that take full sway.  With approximately 30+…

If you have been in the recruiting industry for any length of time, you are probably familiar with what is known as the "unemployed mindset" - the tendency of employers to prefer currently employed candidates over those who are unemployed. This mindset has prevailed despite mass layoffs during the recession that put many on the unemployment lines through no fault of their own.

As the economy continues its sluggish recovery, some are still struggling to find work. Here…

How The Recruiting Animal Show Ruined My Brand

I started blogging on RBC back in May of 2011. I was just about to go back into recruiting, this time as a corporate recruiter. I’d played around the edges of social media for a while, but this was my first attempt at garnering an audience. I was terrified.

The wonderful people at RBC were very welcoming, and even the mean comments were worth something. I made some great online friends and worked with AMAZING people like…

Tiffany Branch - Corporate Recruiter

Tiffany is very articulate and quick on her feet. The Animal Panel got mad because I didn't berate her for anything but, in fact, I only get mad when I have a reason to be. And she didn't make me mad. Except that she doesn't seem to have a Twitter address - an issue I forgot to take up with her on the show.

The callers and the people on Twitter seemed to like her too. I hope she comes back again.
